$18.99 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
There was a time when the cedar flute was only heard in traditional Native American settings, but these days, some musicians are using that traditional instrument in non-traditional ways. One of them is Jeff Ball, whose Cedar Moon offers an evocative blend of new age and Native American music. Because Ball's cedar flute playing is as tranquil and calm as it is, this CD will have no problem appealing to new age audiences. But for Ball, soothing doesn't mean mindless or vacuous -- Cedar Moon isn't turn-your-brain-off music. Those who have, in the past, accused new age of being unchallenging will find that pieces like "Guardian Angel" and "Pure" have a lot of substance. In fact, one doesn't have to be heavily into new age to appreciate Ball, who makes the cedar flute sound perfectly natural in a non-traditional setting. No one will mistake Cedar Moon for traditional Sioux or Navajo music, although it's obvious that the more traditional Native American sounds have had a very positive impact on Maryland native Ball (who comes from mostly Anglo heritage but does have some Native American ancestors on his mother's side). Cedar Moon isn't strictly for new age enthusiasts ...

$8.85 Jennifer Lopez stars as tough Chicago cop Sharon Pogue in Luis Mandoki's ANGEL EYES. Sharon gives no quarter to the criminals on her beat. She's all too ready to beat up any lowlife who treats her disrespectfully. Sharon grew up in an abusive household, and this is the root of her anger. Catch (Jim Caviezel) has his own trauma to deal with. He's a drifter, seemingly connected to nothing and no one. But he suddenly becomes focused one day when he spots Sharon at a coffee shop. When she rushes headlong into a potentially fatal situation, he's there to save her. This odd, ...
| | Jeff Ball Return To Balance CD (2005)
Reverence
$13.29 It may serve as a soundtrack to the film of the same name, but Jeff Ball's Return to Balance is also a wonderful introduction to the man's enchanting music. Playing the Native American flute but not a Native American, Ball weaves in the sounds of acoustic rock, contemporary instrumental, and jammy music that at times brings to mind a rustic Pink Floyd or pianist Bill Evans hanging with Phish. This is easy and calm, wide-open-skies music, but Ball never gets too precious or sweet, even when he's at his warmest. Occasionally he plays in a traditional style and he does show reverence for the instrument, but he also attacks the music with a pop and jazz mentality, pushing some staccato notes out with extra emotion and allowing notes in the lower register some warble and rumble. "Flight of the Blue Raven" is one part R. Carlos Nakai, one part Dark Side of the Moon, while the more subdued "Cedar Moon" could blend into a smooth jazz set nicely. Production and atmosphere play a large role, but there's some naked numbers ...

| | Enya Shepherd Moons CD (1991)
Reverence
$15.15 Her otherworldly voice is trance-like in such songs as the tranquil "Shepherd Moons," "Angeles," "Evacuee," and "Marble Halls." Accessibly lilting, awash in synth strings, "Caribbean Blue" is this album's answer to "Orinoco Flow," Enya's gigantic worldwide pop hit. The song, as all the others, transports the listener to another place. "How Can I Keep Singing?" is Irish folk music at its best. "Ebudae" is a percussive march with a mushrooming ...
| | In Beauty I Walk: The Best Of Coyote Oldman CD (1997)
Reverence
$13.35 A Coyote Oldman outing is always a joy to hear. This Hearts of Space compilation consists of some 74 minutes of selections from the six albums released by Michael Graham Allen and Barry Stramp (Stramp was absent from 1987's In Medicine River, where Stramp was joined by Michael Fitzsimmons on percussion.) The Coyote Oldman sound and ethic has something in common with the growing number of Native American flute albums being released to the market, but the comparison stops right there: while Allen and Stramp utilize traditional and native instruments (the majority of ...

$16.45 A palpable excitement is circulating among the relatively few people who have come into contact with Dirty Mercy…A sense that this four piece band based in North Hollywood, CA, is destined to restore the glory of rock ‘n’ roll. Drawing from classic rock greats such as Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and The Rolling Stones, Dirty Mercy defies the current state of music with its warm analogue tones, and it’s unabashedly longer songs, live jams and frequent guitar solos. Ironically, however, what sets Dirty Mercy apart from other bands is that it truly is a product of the times. Half formed on a film set and half formed over the internet, a world shrunk by technology brought together four unlikely partners. The interplay of vocalist Brendan Wolfe’s intelligent and heartfelt lyrics and dynamic ...
