Standard Screen; Soundtrack English It's 1939 and the Hornet Squadron, a Royal Air Force group of Spitfires, is being assembled for duty in France. As the men prepare for action they must learn to deal with each other despite personality conflicts and class divisions. An excellent miniseries covering the early months of World War II and the Battle of Britain, featuring painstakinly accurate aerial battles and complex character development. Based on the novel by Derek Robinson.

Piece Of Cake Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) A long search finally over! Thanks to you. This epic has been searched for for almost 15yrs, in a tradition of war time movies that depic Australia's involement as a nation during WW2. It is an epic that rates as highly as the ANZAC's movie of WW1. This movie shows the contribution to history that our man and woman have made towards world affairs. Top Show, and again thanks for ending the search for the set. Australian Customs was the only delay that i had in getting them. Great storyline, with only average effects A Piece of Cake is a fictional drama taking place during the first days of World War II into the Battle of Britain about 1 year later. This film is based on a British novel and the film itself was a British production meaning that it pays much attention to storyline and character development, but lacks the special effects found in Hollywood. That being said, the effects are still pretty good for a flying story. As the original storyline was fiction based on true events, it does have some inaccuracies, most of which are understandable. The Supermarine Spitfire, used throughout the series, was actually not used during the Battle of France. However, I would surmise that there are probably few flyable Hawker Hurricans that were available for filming. Even the four bladed prop Spitfires shown here were not of the vintage of the early days of WWII. Again, I think that this could be excused given that the series was made in the early 90s. What makes this series so great, however, is its attention to storyline and character development. The pilots portrayed in this series seem more authentic in the sense that they are believable. Even the hero character, Moggie, was a jerk of a personality rather than some overly patriotic parrot with a hot babe. This is quite different than if Hollywood would have written the script. Surprisingly, much of the storeline takes place during the 'phoney war' period, about 4 episodes. However, once the invasion of France begins all the way to the end, attrition of the characters is high. At the end of the series, only two of the original pilots of Hornet Squadron that served since the declaration of war are left by September 1940. Overall, the strong aspects of this series far outweighs any special effects or action scenes that may be missing. A Piece of Cake offers a rich story about an important aspect of WWII. It is highly recommended for those who like an involved story and who are interested in history, but also for those who simply enjoy a good story. If you are a Rambo lovin action fan, expecting to see breathtaking flying scenes packed with suspense, action, and love subplot, your better off watching Top Gun or something like that. The American perspective Why is it that Americans need to have their own up front before they take note of a film. Gaines Boyde was certainly a main character, among many who starred in this series, and why do overseas actors find it necessary to have an American accent to find a part in a film. Don't you have Britains living in the good ole US of A Submitted by Jim (Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

$9.69 In GOSFORD PARK, Robert Altman explores the English class system and master-servant relations via his preferred modus operandi of multiple characters and intertwining storylines, which he achieved so brilliantly in NASHVILLE. Featuring an all-star British ensemble cast, the film recalls both THE RULES OF THE GAME and THE REMAINS OF THE DAY, with a midpoint shift to an Agatha Christie whodunit. In November 1932, a phalanx of moneyed guests arrives for a weekend shooting party at the estate of Sir William McCordle (Michael Gambon) and Lady Sylvia (Kristin Scott Thomas). Mary (Kelly Macdonald), a fresh-faced, naïve new maid accompanies the sniping Countess of Trentham (Maggie Smith), and is shown the ropes by the house's worldly head housemaid, Elsie (Emily Watson). While the masters engage in various financial and sexual intrigues upstairs, the world downstairs has its own curiosities--namely, the predatory valet to a Hollywood producer, Henry Denton (Ryan ...

$10.65 Ice Cube replaces Vin Diesel for this hard-bangin' sequel which favors fists, cars, and snooping over the original's heavy dose of extreme sports stunts. NSA agent Gibbons (Samuel Jackson, back from the original) finds his group under attack by well-armed, well-informed combatants, forcing him to activate a new XXX, Darius Stone (Cube), an old Navy Seal buddy currently cooling his heels in an army prison. It turns out there's a plan to whack the president (Peter Strauss) and a deranged secretary of defense played by Willem Dafoe is behind it. What's more important is the cool way Darius knows how to land a speeding boat on a bridge, then walk away in slow motion as it blows up behind him. Other great scenes include a tank battle on an aircraft carrier and a race ...
