Fantomas: Mike Patton (vocals); Buzz Osborne (guitar); Trevor Dunn (bass); Dave Lombardo (drums). Recorded at Brilliant Studios, San Francisco, California. The first project Mike Patton worked on after the April 1998 breakup of Faith No More was the all-star Fantomas. Heavy metal fans everywhere salivated at the lineup of Patton on vocals, the Melvins' Buzz Osborne on guitar, ex-Slayer Dave Lombardo on drums, and Mr. Bungle's Trevor Dunn on bass. But as longtime fans have come to learn long ago, always expect the unexpected with Patton-related projects. The band's self-titled debut (the first for Patton's record label, Ipecac) is far from your conventional rock; composed and produced entirely by the singer, the songs serve as a soundtrack to a comic book's story line. At nearly 43-minutes in length, Fantomas is comprised of 30 chronologically numbered "pages"' instead of songs. While it's an unconventional album, it's also a completely original one, especially when compared to the blah and predictable alt-rock of the late '90s. Patton uses his voice as an instrument with often amazing results (singing nonsensical syllables instead of words); few singers have the talent or know-how to pull off such highlights as "Page 1," "Page 19," "Page 21," and "Page 29." If you're expecting an album comparable to either Faith No More or Mr. Bungle, you may be confused and disappointed. But if you're looking for something completely original and cutting edge, Fantomas is highly recommended. ~ Greg PratoCMJ (5/24/99, p.27) - "...Elements of Japanese noise and arty tomfoolery reverberate through the dense, guitar-heavy textures....FANTOMAS is one of the most challenging and imaginative all-star efforts in recent memory." | Fantomas Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Creative Genius Mike Patton, Dave Lombardo, Buzz Osborne, and Trevor Dunn, all in one band, need I say more? Submitted by a reviewer (Oak Harbor, WA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Got ADD? This CD is one of the most unbelievable things I have heard. Pure musical genious! Spastic, harsh, beautiful. Up there with Frank Zappa as far as musicianship goes. Not for the casual pop listener but a must have for open minded experimental or "different" music listeners. Submitted by Tim (Utah) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Fantomas
$7.99 Mr. Bungle: Vlad Drac (vocals); Scummy (guitar); Theobald Brooks Lengyel (alto & baritone saxophones); Bar (tenor saxophone); Trevor Roy Dunn (bass); Heifetz (drums). Additional personnel: David Shea (scratches); Yeesus Krist, Maximum Bob, Kahli, Jennifer (background vocals). Recorded at Different Fur, San Francisco, California in 1991. Vlad Drac is actually Mike Patton of Faith No More. To say that Mr. Bungle is unfocused is like criticizing a rapper for not being able to sing -- it may be true, but it misses the point of the music. Mr. Bungle is a dizzying, disconcerting, schizophrenic tour through just about any rock style the group can think of, hopping from genre to genre without any apparent rhyme or reason, and sometimes doing so several times in the same song. Mike Patton's lyrics are even more bizarrely humorous than those he used in Faith No More, and they're also less self-censored, as titles like "Squeeze Me Macaroni," "My Ass Is on Fire," and "The Girls of Porn" indicate. It's a difficult, not very accessible record, and the band wouldn't have it any other way. ~ Steve Huey Although Mike Patton found fame and fortune as the singer for Faith No More (with their 1989 breakthrough release THE REAL THING), he was first a member of Mr. Bungle. Instead of quitting his former band when he accepted FNM's vocal offer, Patton decided to keep both projects going simultaneously. ...

Fantomas
$13.05 Fantomas is the supergroup made up of Mike Patton (Mr Bungle, Faith No More), Buzz Osbourne (Melvins), Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer, Gripp, Inc) and Trevor Dunn ( Mr Bungle). This CD is composed of music from motion picture soundtracks, as interpreted by Fantomas. 15 tracks. 2001 release.
Fantomas: Mike Patton, Buzz Osborne, Dave Lombardo, Trevor Dunn. Recorded at Grandmaster Recorders, Hollywood, California. Fantomas stand with their feet planted horizontally across the soft dimensions of your face, warping the shape of your skull and shoulders with their off-color explosions. With expectations withering on the floor, leaving a viscous stink, nothing in their hands is concrete. As a follow-up to their 30-song debut, throughout which vocalist Mike Patton never formed a single actual word, Fantomas offer these 16 new creations, all realigned versions of film soundtracks, ranging from the notorious theme to Rosemary's Baby to the obscure and peculiar wank of Henry: ...
| | Fantomas Delirium Cordia CD (2004)
Fantomas
$13.19 Fantomas: Mike Patton (vocals); Buzz "King Buzzo" Osborne (guitar); Trevor Dunn (bass); Dave Lombardo (percussion). Recorded in Los Angeles, California, 2003. The third release by Fantômas, Delirium Cordia, turns a bit of a different direction from the band's previous releases. Delirium Cordia is one track clocking in at 74 minutes. The record is always haunting; giving one a sense of the grizzly images of the insert booklet -- photos of surgeries in action. The music has film score qualities, a feeling of being lost in a hospital at night, a hospital much like that of Lars Von Trier's The Kingdom, while Hellraiser demons watch and wait from afar. Where Director's Cut was a variation of different '70s film themes, Delirium Cordia is a score to Patton's own horror-filled imagination. Fantômas are open and free, but always maintain a rhythmic through-line, whether a bass, samples, or percussion. ...

Fantomas
$10.39 1st Time On CD;1983;4 Bonus Tracks From BBC Session
Geordie includes: 'Doctor' Rob Turnbull (vocals); David Stephenson, Vic Malcolm (guitar); Tom Hill (bass); Brian Gibson (drums). Includes liner notes by Dave Ling. All tracks have been digitally remastered. After watching former singer Brian Johnson strike it rich with AC/DC, '70s relics Geordie speedily re-formed in a blatant but understandable attempt to capitalize. Never mind that nearly a decade had passed since the band's last effort, 1976's Save the World; for most children of the '80s Geordie may as well have been a brand new concern, and 1983's No Sweat gave nothing away by peddling the sort of commercial hard rock that dominated the era. The opening title track does model itself on a suspiciously familiar (if hardly patented) AC/DC riff, but to Geordie's credit, new singer "Doctor" Rob Turnbull's cleaner vocal delivery sounds nothing like Brian Johnson's, being more reminiscent of Saxon's Biff Byford, if anyone. Ensuing first single "This Time" also dispels any worries of an all-out cop-job with its totally un-AC/DC-like pop sensibilities, but, along with efficient but unspectacular entries such as "Hungry" and "Oh No!" (mixing electric and acoustic guitars in a way that's pure UFO), also fails to contribute anything remotely original ...
