$11.65 Why is it that when Axel Rudi Pell plays live, his act is more reminiscent of Ronnie James Dio with an amazing guitar player than it is the generic brand of heavy metal he is usually associated with? Knights Live, despite it's sometimes ridiculous stage banter -- that recalls the excesses of Ted Nugent's vocalist Derek St. Holmes in ...

| | Breaking Pangaea Cannon To A Whisper CD (2001)
Wizard's Chosen Few songs
$7.49 Although emo is a music terminology thrown around all too much by music critics and fans alike, it is hard to argue with the logic of such classifications. While many could argue that a variety of musical styles can invoke emotion in one sense or another in a person, the more passionate and soothing music experiences stand out as exceptionally proficient in revealing the ache of one's heart. In this regard, Breaking Pangaea happens to one of the most promising emo groups in some time, as their melodic direction and low-key impact leave the listener stunned. Cannon to a Whisper is a stellar collection of songs that motivate the listener to allow themselves to feel. Bordering on straight rock & roll, Breaking Pangaea has the raw aura that feels much more genuine then the majority of the emo genre, dictating lyrics with an intensity uncommon in others burdened by the classification. While there is little here that could be described as pure aggression, songs such as "Wedding Dress" and "The New Sound" strike with the forceful nature of hardcore yet leave a distinct impression of hope and perseverance in the listener's mind. This trio weaves dramatic dreamscapes through their music and plays with such honesty and depth that their music could just as easily bring one to tears as they could make one leap with joy. Cannon to a Whisper is an accurate title for this album, as Breaking Pangaea captures the listener with explosions of emotion that appear as subtle, mellow rock. This is truly an album that is as cathartic as it is compelling. ~ Jason D. Taylor
LongRoad is an amalgam of three childhood friends hailing from New Jersey and singer Ted Ames, from Coventry, Vermont. LongRoad was formed in January 2005 when the other members met Ted Ames at the Knitting Factory in NYC and decided that the commonality of musical influence and interest among them should be explored further in the studio. The result is the band’s debut CD, This ...

Wizard's Chosen Few CD music
$12.89 The Jazz Studio series recorded for Decca during the 1950s produced a lot of enjoyable sessions, though many of them were very hard to obtain until Lonehill Jazz began reissuing them in 2004. The first two tracks, first released as Jazz Studio, Vol. 1, are long workouts that featuring trumpeter ...

| | Day To Remember And Their Name Was Treason CD (2005)
Wizard's Chosen Few songs
$10.49 Emo enthusiasts will probably take the title of A Day to Remember's And Their Name Was Treason quite literally, as here is yet another young band clearly steeped in that scene, now turning to embrace the seemingly "next" musical trend that is the ever more popular metalcore style. Meanwhile and for their part, metalheads are sure to exclaim: "Not another one!" In either case, like so many of these acts, A Day to Remember write bite-sized songs that constantly waver back and forth between extremely melodic chorus sections (at times saccharinely so) and depths-of-hell Cookie Monster growling (at times scarily convincing), with almost maddening reliability. That's not to say that they don't uncork the occasional excellent example of the form, such as the power pop-leaning "A Second Glance" or the incredibly heavy "1958." But, these bright spots aside, one can literally predict the band's switches between its hard/soft facets with disturbing accuracy, having never heard the songs before. Even more clichéd, ...
