Originally released in 1996, their fifth release was a greatsuccess for these masters of melodic metal. For the first time, choirs and a symphonic orchestra are introduced to their music and the effect is amazing. Now includes the bonus track 'When The Night Meets The Day'. 13 tracks
Episode is indeed a big step for Stratovarius. It's the album on which they finally reached the sound that would last for years. So everything seems to be all right, except for the fact that Episode doesn't work so well as a whole. There are perfect hits like "Father Time," "Will the Sun Rise," and "Speed of Light," but the rest of the material fails in comparison, as is isn't as catchy or well put together. But despite these small lacks, Episode is very enjoyable. Each member of Stratovarius is a virtuoso of his instrument, and ever since Fourth Dimension they've played very well together. The best thing, however, is the diverse sound, which compensates for the lack of good songs. So, if you enjoyed the last two Stratovarius albums, you will love Episode. ~ Antti J. Ravelin
Stratovarius: Timo Kotipelto (vocals); Timo Tolkki (guitar); Jens Johansson (keyboards); Jari Kainulainen (bass); Jorg Michael (drums).

All good metal from finland! this is a very good melodic power metal album like all that stratovarius comes out with! its a great album for a cheap price. kicks off with a vocal tearing power metal song, "father time" and even though there are slower songs, stratovarious blasts off the ground and leaves earth with the guitar and bass shredding instumental "stratosphere". a very good album from startovarius! You must buy this. This was the Stratovarius CD that made me the fan I am now. I would even venture to say that without it, I would not have the awesome musical taste I have now. If you're new to Stratovarius, buy this and let it change your life. If you're already a fan, and don't yet have it - Why not? I've owned it for 7 years now and it's still one of my all time favorites. Timo's guitars are filled with speed, energy, and precision. The other Timo's voice is perhaps at it's best on this CD. The song writing is, as usual, magical. This is a must have. Submitted by Duncan (Texas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Episode album
$13.49 Glory to the Brave is indeed a classic power metal record -- no frills or progressive elements here, just speed-laden, melodic, grandiose anthems about honor, glory, and slaying dragons. And the group manages to generally steer clear of the campiness that plagued bands like Manowar. Of note are the pro-Crusades lyrics of "Steel Meets Steel," atypical sentiments in a genre known for rebelling against religion. Overall this stuff isn't new or groundbreaking, but it's performed passionately enough that you'd think you were starting to experience the New Wave of British Heavy Metal the first time around. Hammerfall also gets points for covering Warlord's long-lost classic "Child of the Damned." ~ Bryan Reesman
1998 album featuring the title cut, which doubles as the first single extracted from it. Nine tracks total, all sure to please fans of old school metal bands like Iron Maiden and Fates Warning. Nuclear Blast.

| | Hammerfall Legacy Of Kings CD (1998)
Episode CD music
$13.49 Cleaner and slicker than their debut, Legacy of Kings was the highly anticipated follow-up to Hammerfall's singular revival of '80s-style power metal Glory to the Brave. Bursting on the European metal scene in 1997, and almost single-handedly reviving an entire genre, Hammerfall placed themselves among the '90s vanguard with their double bass driven, dungeons and dragons epic metal that echoed "pure metal" strains reminiscent of Manowar and European old-school champions Helloween. After breaking sales records and shocking everyone with their music's stunning popularity, the lineup of Joacim Cans (vocals), Patrik Räfling (drums), Oscar Dronjak (guitars), Stefan Elmgren (guitars), and Magus Rosén (bass) returned to the studio greatly encouraged by their success and the unbelievable re-emergence of the power metal they practiced. The resulting collection was strong and steady, if a little predictable. Things start off nicely as four double bass rockers set a blinding pace. With it's exceptional chorus, "Dreamland" represents the musical high point of this first section, if not the entire record. "Warriors of Faith" is another choice track -- with it's tight drumming and accomplished guitar ...

| | Elvin Bishop Skin I'm In CD (1998)
Episode music CDs
$14.15 Elvin keeps the cornpone good-ole-boy schtick down to an acceptable level on this, perhaps his most serious solo album to date. Although Bishop's good-time approach is still evident on tunes like "I'm Gone," "Right Now Is the Hour," the acoustic "Radio Boogie" (with a guest shot from Charlie Musselwhite) and "Country Blues," the playing and lyrics get much deeper and more serious with "Shady Lane," "The Skin They're In," "Middle Aged Man" and "Long Shadows." Perhaps the most cohesive album he's made to date, revealing an artist coming to grips with his muse, his age and his art, all at once. ~ Cub Koda

| | Iced Earth CD (1991)
Episode album
$14.05 By the time they recorded their eponymous debut, heavy metal traditionalists Iced Earth were seasoned veterans, having gradually climbed their way to the surface of a Florida club scene swimming with hundreds of death metal bands. And it shows, for despite a few production kinks, their sound (combining a tremendous Iron Maiden influence with a few thrash metal tricks, namely double kick drums) was almost fully developed. Led by rhythm guitarist Jon Schaffer, the group storm their way through a series of galloping anthems filled with guitar harmonies, complex time changes, and admirable musical chops, especially from lead guitarist Randall Shawver. "Written on the Walls," "Colors," "The Funeral," and "When the Night Falls" are only a few of the highlights -- most of which were later re-recorded with new players for 1997's Days of Purgatory compilation. Purists may prefer the raw original versions. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
