10cc's official live album, 1977's LIVE AND LET LIVE, was--typically for the time--an overslick, studio-tweaked, glossy bore. However, their edition of the KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR series of radio concerts was recorded on a more intimate scale. This concert in Santa Monica in November, 1975, on the band's last US tour with the original lineup of Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley, Lol CrFme, and Graham Gouldman is a far superior example of 10cc's considerable stage presence.
Although 10cc's songs tended to be sarcastic and savagely funny, they were first and foremost an outstanding art-pop band, musically somewhere between the complex sophistication of the Soft Machine or Steely Dan and the pure pop satisfaction of Wings or ELO. Interestingly, although this tour was in support of the band's US breakthrough, THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK, it doesn't include that album's monster hit, "I'm Not In Love."

10cc King Biscuit Flower Hour (In Concert) Songs King Biscuit Flower Hour (In Concert) Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Suprise! These guys were great live, too! Anyone who fell in love with the original 10cc (the complete quartet on the first 4 albums) could tell that these guys were studio wizards. But, could they produce the goods on stage? Sadly, I never got the chance to see them live (they broke up weeks before their first local concert was sold out). But, this recording of a late 1975 performance proves that they were as good live as in the studio. Far superior to 1977's Steward-Gouldman duo live album, this CD suffers from only 1 thing--only songs are from the first 2 UK albums are included. The liner notes include excerpts from the song list, showing that there was material played that night that came from their 2 Mercury albums. Since 10cc anthologies never mix the UK and Mercury studio recordings, it must be assumed that the lack of an agreement between the owners of their catlog still cannot agree to work together. It's all the more a shame here, because it would have been great to hear the other half of that concert. Maybe someday someone will get around to releasing the entire performance.
