| | Rosanne Cash List CD (2009)
Sisterhood Of Convoluted Thinkers
$11.99 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of ...

| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Sisterhood Of Convoluted Thinkers
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills ...

Sisterhood Of Convoluted Thinkers
$86.29 This box set includes Queen's first eight studio albums in their original album-style packaging.
Recorded in Montreux, Switzerland and Nice, France between July and October, 1978.
Queen started as a kind of glam-rock variant on the '70s heavy-rock sound of Led Zeppelin, but it soon became apparent that there was much more to the group than that. The high-pitched vocal acrobatics of flamboyant frontman Freddie Mercury, and the songwriting skills of all four Queen members, enabled the group to explore countless genres, sometimes several in the course of a single album. Besides the multi-tracked choral vocal expeditions of Mercury, a sonic trademark was the almost orchestral guitar sound of Brian May. These elements were the connecting thread ...
| | Saint Etienne Good Humor CD (1998)
Sisterhood Of Convoluted Thinkers
$9.89 GOOD HUMOR contains a bonus CD that is limited to the first 10,000 copies.
St. Etienne's fourth album, GOOD HUMOR, abandons the dance elements of earlier releases to focus on the ultra-melodic Bacharach/Wilson/Beatles pop that has always been at the root of the band's music. The record sounds swoon-inducingly gorgeous. Leslied keyboards, vibes, and real strings and horns color Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs' arrangements. Sarah Cracknell's underrated voice, always the band's strongest feature, has matured into a fine ...

Sisterhood Of Convoluted Thinkers
$17.09 The Atlanta swamp blues rocker's fourth album in four years introduces a new bassist, and more importantly a new female lead singer into the fold. All the elements coalesce immediately as the opening track, "You Don't Have to Go," kicks off with easygoing slide guitars setting up the low-boil funk as vocalist Kristin Markiton purrs the suggestive lyrics in a feisty but sexy croon. Certainly different than previous lead singer Gina Leigh, she nonetheless comfortably meshes with the band's established groove, trading lead vocals with songwriter/guitarist and occasional keyboardist Tom Gray on many of the tracks and bringing an old Delaney & Bonnie feel to the proceedings. A few rearranged covers from relatively obscure blues artists such as the late Frank Edwards ("Put Your Arms Around Me") and Jessie Mae Hemphill ("Lovin in the Moonlight") slot into the band's self-written originals that dominate the disc. The twin slide guitars of Gray and Mark Johnson generally control the vibe, bringing a simmering intensity to the Southern boogie of "Midnight Train," "Officer," and the driving "Let Tomorrow Be." Good and greasy, the arrangements find the space between the instruments, so this never shifts into twin guitar overdrive. Rather, the two lead players hover and intertwine their parts without overwhelming the atmosphere or escalating ...
