There's just one rub: Mom's got a perfectly hidden drinking problem. Suddenly a boating accident brings the family's secret into the open. The mother struggles first to conceal and then confront her alcoholism, finally entering a rehabilitation clinic. While his wife heals, the husband has to hold his family together and recognize his role in her addiction. A picture-perfect family, full of love and passion for life, is threatened by the wife's dependence on alcohol in this heart-wrenching drama. In the end, it may take more than they can give to overcome their shared struggles. Shot in Technicolor and on location in Los Angeles and San Francisco, California.

Life imitates art in this adaptation of Karen Joy Fowler's bestselling novel about a book group reading the work of Jane Austen. Each of the people in the group is at a different stage of life: there's Sylvia (Amy Brenneman), whose husband has just left her for another woman, and her daughter Allegra (Maggie Grace), who's looking for a woman herself. Bernadette (Kathy Baker) has six marriages under her belt, while Jocelyn's (Maria Bello) most significant relationship is with her dog. New to the group of friends are Prudie (Emily Blunt), a teacher who is unhappy with her marriage, and Grigg (Hugh Dancy), the group's only man--a sci-fi fan invited by Jocelyn to take Sylvia's mind off her failed marriage. For his third feature film, British director Sam Mendes (AMERICAN BEAUTY) turns to the pages of Anthony Swofford's 2003 book on his experiences in the first Gulf War, and enlists William Broyles Jr.--a former Lieutenant who fought in Vietnam--to convert it into a screenplay. Mendes's film strays into FULL METAL JACKET territory as it opens, with young recruit Swofford (Jake Gyllenhaal) undertaking some rigorous basic training under the steely, watchful eye of Staff Sgt.
