Personnel: Gary Hoey, Brian Setzer (guitar); Tony Franklin (bass); Gregg Bissonette (drums). Recorded at RTB Studios, Lake Havasu, Arizona. Bug Alley is another showcase for Gary Hoey's exceptional instrumental skills, but it falls short of being the crossover breakthrough he is capable of. Part of the problem is Hoey is more interested in playing guitar than recording an album. He hauls out classic rock chestnuts like "Black Magic Woman" and "Gotta Serve Somebody," "reinterpreting" them by making them blues-rock and hard-rock guitar workouts. Granted, his technique is frequently startling, but too often it sounds like a mutant hybrid of Joe Satriani and Stevie Ray Vaughan's worst tendencies. And both of those guitarists knew how to make albums that appealed to musicians, not just guitarists. Perhaps Hoey could learn something from his idols. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Gary Hoey Bug Alley Songs Bug Alley Review

Bug Alley
$13.65 Personnel: Vinnie Moore (guitar), Andy West (bass), Tony MacAlpine (keyboards), Tommy Aldridge (drums). Personnel: Vinnie Moore (guitar); Tony MacAlpine (keyboards); Tommy Aldridge (drums). Recording information: Prairie Sun Studios, Cotati CA (08/1996). Who's faster: Yngwie Malmsteen or Vinnie Moore? That was the question back in 1986 when this recording was released. An obvious clone of Malmsteen, Moore burst upon the scene ...
| | Greg Howe Ascend CD (1999)
Bug Alley
$13.45 Personnel includes: Greg Howe (guitar); Vitalij Kuprij (keyboards). The '90s were not a good decade for shredders. In 1990, it seemed as if their place within the rock & roll pantheon was secure, but grunge and alternative quickly banished them to an underground world where most cult artists exist -- a world of independent record labels, word-of-mouth buzz and specialized magazines. Nobody escaped the purge, even though all of the guitarists were quite talented. Once they were away from the spotlight, the guitarists decided to go hardcore, not compromise their principles and make music for one very specific audience. That's why outsiders will be confounded ...

| | Gary Hoey Money CD (1999)
Bug Alley
$14.49 Personnel: Gary Hoey (guitar); Ray Riendeau (bass); Glen Sobel (drums). There's little question that Gary Hoey is a talented guitarist, capable of spinning out dizzying solos at the drop of the hat. He has a problem making compelling records, though. His fourth proper studio album, Money -- not counting no less than three holiday records and a live album -- starts off on the wrong note with a horridly misguided reworking of Pink Floyd's "Money" as a post-Surfing With the Alien instrumental, ...

Bug Alley
$16.19 Unreleased 1990 studio album by this hard rock/metal supergroup featuring Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Clive Burr (Iron Maiden), Bernie Torme (Gillan/Ozzy) and Marc Russell. This band was poised for success until the Grunge scene came along and their label decided not to release it due to the changing musical climate. 11 tracks including 'Hang 'Em High', 'Calling For You' and 'Emaheevull'. Angel Air.
Desperado: Dee Snider (vocals); Bernie Tormé (guitar); Mark Russell (bass guitar); Clive Burr (drums). Of all the projects Dee Snider has been involved in over the years, the one shrouded in the most mystery was undoubtedly Desperado. First mentioned in heavy metal magazines circa the late '80s, the group appeared to be a promising proposition, as it saw Snider team up with a pair of gentlemen renowned in the metal community -- ex-Ian Gillan and Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Bernie Tormé and ex-Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr -- with bassist Marc Russell rounding out the quartet. The group had an album ready and raring to go ...
