Standard Screen; Bio/Filmographies; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles; Director's Comments; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re; Behind The Scenes A gritty, devastating retelling of the battle for Stalingrad during World War II, in which more than a million and a half soldiers lost their lives. Told from the point of view of the German soldiers, who were under orders to neither retreat nor surrender, this film realistically portrays the brutality of combat. Stalingrad Reviews: "...[Vilsmaier] has a marvellous eye, whether for dense, crowded interiors or for landscape..."
-- Julian Graffy, Sight and Sound "...It is a film with integrity..."

Stalingrad Movie Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews great movie One of the best war movies of all time. Great acting and terrfic scenes. Movie angle from the German side. Refreshing to see a movie where the German Army was the main theme. Lots of German troops moving forward under fire. A slight inaccurracy in the helmets, some being post war but over all a good rendition. Although the ending,in truth, was a bad ending for the Germans, it would have been nice to see one of the hero's escape back to the homeland. Most didn't, but a few did. A worthwhile perpsective for North American viewers If you have seen arguably realistic, relatively accurate cinematic portrayals of WW2 such as "Saving Private Ryan", "Band of Brothers" series, and "A bridge Too Far", as examples, then one should appreciate a German view on the German military of WW2. This movie was good at portraying average Wermacht soldiers as people, just as the aforementioned movies did the same from American and British perspectives. North American viewers would do well to watch Stalingrad with a critica, yet accepting mind of "another" viewpoint of a crucial chapter in WW2. Stalingrad film
$9.65 In the midst of World War II, as the tide turns against the Axis, a German U-boat crew is sent out to patrol the Atlantic and fire at Allied ships bringing supplies to England. The submarine also carries a press correspondent, there to report from the front lines of nautical warfare. Meanwhile, the crew's captain (Jürgen Prochnow) is becoming disillusioned with the Nazi regime and with war in general. What starts out as a routine mission is soon livened up beyond the crew's expectations when their boat's surprise attack on a convoy is thwarted by a fast-moving destroyer. Battered by depth charges, the crew must pull together to survive the attacks of their unseen enemy.
Widely considered to be director Wolfgang Petersen's best film and one of the finest German films ever made, DAS BOOT is stunningly ...

Stalingrad DVD
$17.99 MY FLESH AND BLOOD documents one year in the life of divorced, 53-year-old Fairfield, California mother Susan Tom and her 11 adopted children--ten of which are physically or mentally disabled. After a 13-year marriage that produced two children of her own and her first adopted child, she continued to take in children with special needs, despite her lack of a regular income. The family includes Xenia, 13, and Hannah, 11, who were both born with no legs, eight-year-old Faith, whose face was badly burned in an accident when she was two, and Anthony, 19, who suffers from a rare disease which prevents the skin from properly adhering to the body. The majority of the stress in the house, however, originates with, Joe, 15, who suffers from cystic fibrosis, attention deficit disorder, and a problem controlling his abundant anger. Able-bodied college student Margaret, meanwhile, is crumbling under the pressure of helping her mother care for her siblings. Director Jonathan Karsh's film is inspiring without resorting to sentimentality. While the camera ...

$7.75 Based on a story by Japanese novelist Koji Suzuki and a film by Hideo Nakata (THE RING), DARK WATER is a thrilling exercise in psychological terror. Jennifer Connelly stars as Dahlia, a troubled woman who is battling her husband, Kyle (Dougray Scott), for custody of their young daughter, Ceci (Ariel Gade). Low on cash, Dahlia moves with Ceci into a creepy apartment building on Roosevelt Island in New York City--and soon discovers that something very wrong is going on one floor above them. As black water drips down ominously from the ceiling in her bedroom, Dahlia is unable to get help from the real estate agent in charge (the appropriately mysterious John C. Reilly) or his very strange employee (a grizzled Pete Postlethwaite). Stalingrad review
$21.49 Set in a gritty area of Algiers in the late 1980s, this intense, powerful film follows a young man who finds himself on the wrong side of the increasingly powerful Islamic fundamentalist movement.
In the spring of 1989, Algeria is still unstable after the violent riots of the previous year. Boualem, who works the night shift in a bakery in the Bab El-Oued district of Algiers, makes a foolish mistake in this volatile atmosphere. After he is awakened by the amplified sermon of a rising Islamic cleric as it blares over a loudspeaker perched atop his building, he steals the speaker and tosses ...
