| | Air Mail Music: Russia CD - Import
If you visited Russia for two weeks and used professional equipment to record some gifted but unknown musicians you encountered in Moscow or St. Petersburg, the recording might sound something like Air Mail Music: Russia. Recorded somewhere in Russia, this CD turns its attention to traditional Russian folk music. The CD's liner notes don't tell you where in Russia these recordings were made; nor are any recording dates or personnel given. Like many other CDs in this series, Air Mail Music: Russia won't win any awards for comprehensive liner notes. But whoever the performers are, they're talented. Some of the material is instrumental, while some of it features various singers, both male and female. Among the main instruments heard are the balalaika, the bayan (a chromatic accordion) and the dombra (a three-string lute). The material is consistently pleasing, but it would be nice to know who some of these performers are or what parts of Russia they were performing in. ~ Alex Henderson

$18.99 HeartStrings is a Nashville-based, all-woman bluegrass group characterized by tight vocal harmonies, energetic stage performances, and a crowd-pleasing mix of traditional and original acoustic music. Since first taking the stage on Valentine's Day in 2001, HeartStrings has been growing in popularity, particularly in the Nashville area, where critics and fellow artists are singing the band's praises."The five women of HeartStrings only started gigging around town a year ago, but galvanized by first-rate picking and lusty trio harmonies, those shows quickly won the group a strong local following," said Bill Friskics-Warren of the Nashville Scene.Recording artist Kathy Mattea praised the band after hearing HeartStrings perform in concert with her at her church in Nashville."I love these women! Five wonderful musicians who all happen to be female, playing authentic and inspired bluegrass. I love it that any one of them can be found singing lead at any given time. Great harmonies, ...

$10.65 Philadelphia’s Playloop Records releases first label compilation “Get Into The Loop Vol. 1”"Playloop is going to put Philadelphia back on the map" King Britt, FiveSixMedia – December 2006"It's satisfying to see a US based label starting to veer out of the normal “US” sound, and with so many different genres to cover, Playloop certainly has their work cut out for them. This label is definitely one to look forward to this year if these tracks have anything to say about it. Geoff Roberts, 365 Mag - 8 /10 stars - February 2007"I'm all over it..."Jorge Hernandez, Remix Magazine / Earplug - March 2007Philadelphia’s Playloop Records releases first label compilation “Get Into The Loop Vol. 1”Philadelphia’s Playloop records are onto something big. The label has already drawn the praise of top DJs including King Britt, Josh Wink and Carl Cox, and its tracks are consistently among the most popular selling on a number of online download destinations. Soon to be available for the first time on one disc, Playloop will pull together its hottest tracks for debut label compilation, “Get Into The Loop Vol. 1”Soon after listening to “Get Into The Loop Vol. 1” for the first time you’ll notice something very special about the label – diversity in sound and style. Whereas many labels make their mark for releasing music with a certain vibe, Playloop represents the many flavors of electronic and dance music. Kezner starts of the album with two downtempo tripped-out rocktronica gems “Assimilated” and the grand “If The Sun Sets.” These two tracks will get your head nodding and set a perfect intro for the clubbier tracks to follow. Playloop CEO Justin Paul provides a slow and smooth transition to the dancefloor with his hazy “Deeper Submergence,” while Microstar follows with some deeper house on “Virtual Voltage” and “500 Degrees.” Justin Paul then ups the ante with minimal techno beats on “Red Shift” and the jolting electro/pop of “There’s A Reason” featuring the vocals of Sapphirecut. Next, popular American DJ/Producer Nigel Richards enters the fold and builds on the electro theme with his acidic, 303 filled techno track, “Acid Reflux.” The Tattoo Detectives and DJ Everyday keep the techno flowing with a number of tracks before Locality closes things out with the epic “One Foot On The Moon.”Media contactJustin Kleinfeldrephlektor inkorporatedjustin@rephlektorink.comwww.rephlektorink.com(646) ...
