| | Supergenerous CD Supergenerous Discography of CDs
The medleys "Dreamin' Of A Train/Take the A Train" and "Caravan/Camel, Sand and Caravan" feature delicate and hearty acoustic slide playing worthy of Ry Cooder or Mississippi Fred McDowell. "God's Parking Lot" is a shimmering dreamscape, with surreal dub-like production, eerie, distant electric guitar and unsettling percussion. "Brohemia" features picking that brings to mind Celtic folk, South American charango, Appalachian dulcimer and West African guitar music--but it's all grounded by Baptista's gently insinuating, samba-tinged rhythms. With enough twists and quirks to keep things interesting along with a cozy (though not overly mellow), good-natured ambiance, SUPERGENEROUS is a delight.
Cassandra Wilson Guest
Recorded at Joe Music, New York, New York in December 1999.
Supergenerous is a duo: Kevin Breit, guitarist and player of stringed things, and Cyro Baptista, percussionist, and this eponymous album is an almost-all instrumental gem. (Smoky-voiced jazz singer Cassandra Wilson gives "Home On the Range" a sultry recital.) Breit plays with both incredible technique and admirable restraint.
Supergenerous: Kevin Street (acoustic, tenor, electric slide, & Nashville steel guitars, mandolin, mandola, mandocello); Cyro Baptista (snare drum, symphonic bass drums, surdo, Balinese gongs, cowbell).
Additional personnel: Cassandra Wilson (vocals).

Purchase Supergenerous CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Bill Frisell Blues Dream CD (2001)
Supergenerous album
$14.15 BLUES DREAM is another in a series of guitarist Bill Frisell's painterly, roots-inflected explorations of American music. Here, Frisell is joined by a horn section which includes trumpeter Ron Miles and trombonist Curtis Fowlkes (of the Jazz Passengers), and the sound of hard brass in the mix crisply offsets his idiosyncratic, bent-note, impresssionistic techniques. Actually, the guitarist gets off more than a few rock-licks on the R&B jam ...
| | David Gilmore Ritualism CD (2001)
Supergenerous CD music
$13.95 After years of sideman work with Steve Coleman, Don Byron, and many others, guitarist David Gilmore makes a bold and beautiful statement with his long-awaited solo debut, Ritualism. At the core of the project is a high-octane quartet, with Gilmore, George Colligan on piano and keyboards, Brad Jones on double bass, and Rodney Holmes on drums. The presence of guest horn players David Binney, Ravi Coltrane, and Ralph Alessi boosts the excitement level even further. Gilmore brandishes a rugged tone and delivers his lines with a sharp, staccato attack and an astonishing rhythmic fluidity. His writing is highly advanced and richly varied, and while his production aesthetic stresses the live immediacy of acoustic jazz, the tracks groove with a fusion-like urgency. Bursting with odd-metered exchanges, ultra-complex unison figures, and virtuosic solo flights, the music comes across as a best-of-all-worlds synthesis of every influence Gilmore has absorbed. While hard-driving themes like "Paradigm Shift," "Event Horizon," and "Reality Check" boggle the mind ...
| | Massacre Meltdown CD (2001)
Supergenerous music CDs
$13.39 This album takes its title from the fact that it was recorded live at Robert Wyatt's Meltdown Festival in London in June of 2001. It brings together guitarist Fred Frith, bassist Bill Laswell, and drummer Charles Hayward, who, in 1982 (with original drummer Fred Maher in Hayward's place), set the downtown New York avant-garde scene on its ear with the blistering Killing Time. The group reunited in 1998 to record Funny Valentine, an essential (if not quite as brilliant) follow-up. The group's third recorded effort finds them moving into more typical group improv territory, mostly setting up patterns and alternating solos. The fact that they are who they are keeps those patterns and solos from ever getting boring, of course, but a few tightly composed numbers like those found on Killing Time would have been nice. That said, there is gorgeous playing from Frith in particular on "For Good and Scatter," Laswell puts his formidable funk chops to work on "Hover," and "Figure Out" moves from complex improvisatory ...
| | Roberto Juan Rodriguez El Danzon De Moises CD (2002)
Supergenerous songs
$13.39 Roberto Juan Rodriguez, the drummer for Marc Ribot's acclaimed Los Cubanos Postizos, leads an eclectic 12-piece ensemble through an exploratory set of originals, seamlessly melding Cuban and Jewish influences. Joining Rodriguez are heavy hitters from the klezmer and avant-garde jazz worlds, including Mark Feldman, David Krakauer, Matt Darriau, Peter Apfelbaum, Craig Taborn, Susie Ibarra, Marcus Rojas, and Brad Jones. The disc is short and sweet (under 45 minutes), with hypnotic Afro-Cuban vamps intersecting the ...
| | Bonnie Raitt Silver Lining CD (2002)
Supergenerous album
$11.89 "Time Of Our Lives" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
SILVER LINING may be Bonnie Raitt's 16th album, but this scarlet-haired troubadour shows no signs of a creative downturn. Still possessing a rich singing style, an exemplary guitar style, and a passion that imbues every note she sings, Raitt returns to work with the production team of Mitchell Froom and Tchad Blake. Always known to have a keen ear for budding lyricists, Raitt does a fine job in presenting a wide range of songwriters, from the ethereal title track penned by David Gray to the bouncy, GRACELAND-flavored "Hear Me Lord" by Zimbabwean Oliver Mtukudzi, and the esoteric blues of "Back Around," a collaboration with Mali guitarist Habib Koite.
Bonnie kicks back and has fun trading slide guitar licks with fellow slide master Roy Rogers on the barrelhouse raunch of "Gnawin' On It," wallowing in the funky grit of "Monkey Business," and pouring some soulful singing into the Memphis-flavored snap, crackle, ...

A LOVE SUPREME is the essential example of the genius of John Coltrane. With the ultimate incarnation of the jazz quartet, Coltrane brings together ...
