This collection serves as a good introduction to the famous Gypsy guitarist, including as it does examples of the original Hot Club of France quintet with Stephane Grappelli, solo pieces, duets, trios, groups including reed or brass players, and two encounters between Django and ensembles of American musicians. The emphasis tends to be on Django's early Hot Club work, represented by five tunes on this CD, but several others here retain a Hot Club era feeling, particularly the duet with Quintet bassist Louis Vola and the Grappelli-less trio of "I'll See You In My Dreams."
The debate continues to rage over whether the postwar reunion of Reinhardt with Grappelli ever came close to their triumphs of the '30s; the last five cuts will allow you to judge for yourself. And if you're looking for the roots of the "New Acoustic Music" as perpetrated by David Grisman, Mark O'Connor et al, check out "Minor Swing." Like so many tunes that became jazz standards, it was played at a much more relaxed tempo in its original 1937 incarnation than it is usually performed today.
Recorded between May 4, 1936 and March 10, 1948. Includes liner notes by Dan Morgenstern.

Not sure if its really a "best of," but still very good. Overall, this is a really good CD. Several of my favorite Django songs are on it (Limehouse, See You in My Dreams, Nuages, etc). My only beef is that towards the end of the disc, there's a couple tracks of Django with a big band. While I understand how these tracks would demonstrate Django's versatility to someone new to his music, I think its with Grapelli and the smaller groups that Django really shines. 1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff Lynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively gorgeous, McCartney-like "Telephone Line" and the anthemic "Livin' Thing" were well-deserved smashes), ELO was one of the few '70s bands whose appeal covered both the FM and AM spectrums. The album even resurrects "Do Ya," a classic single by Lynne's former band, the Move, in a splashy new version.
The next ELO album, 1977's elaborate double-album OUT OF THIS WORLD, was probably ...

Best Of Django Reinhardt music CDs
$9.05 The title of this album refers to the accompaniment pattern for each of the tunes. There is no ensemble playing; vocalist Mary Pearson is backed by a lone instrumentalist on each track, ergo, the album title You and I. "Thou Swell" is a duet between Steve Davis' traps and Pearson's singing, a device being used with great frequency on albums by contemporary jazz vocalists. Instead of following a routine, steady beat, Davis' drums take a jagged turn as counterpoint ...

$16.19 Eric Burdon and his Animals present a selection of their infectious singles on this collection, with classic songs such as "House of the Rising Sun" and "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" included.
This double-disc, 41-track collection does what the title promises. It runs through the Animals' -- and the subsequent Eric Burdon & the Animals' -- singles, A- and B-sides from March 1964's "Baby Let Me Take You Home" till January 1969's cover of "Ring of Fire." By representing both the early- ...
