Personnel: Grant Green (guitar); McCoy Tyner (piano); Bob Cranshaw (bass); Elvin Jones (drums). Producer: Alfred Lion. Reissue producer: Michael Cuscuna. Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on May 20, 1965. Includes liner notes by Michael Cuscuna. Grant Green recorded so much high-quality music for Blue Note during the first half of the '60s that a number of excellent sessions went unissued at the time. Even so, it's still hard to figure out why 1964's Matador was only released in Japan in 1979, prior to its U.S. CD reissue in 1990 -- it's a classic and easily one of Green's finest albums. In contrast to the soul-jazz and jazz-funk for which Green is chiefly remembered, Matador is a cool-toned, straight-ahead modal workout that features some of Green's most advanced improvisation, even more so than his sessions with Larry Young. Part of the reason for that is that Green is really pushed by his stellar backing unit: pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Bob Cranshaw, and drummer Elvin Jones. Not only is Green leading a group that features one-half of the classic Coltrane Quartet, but he even takes on Coltrane's groundbreaking arrangement of "My Favorite Things" -- and more than holds his own over ten-plus minutes. In fact, every track on the album is around that length; there are extended explorations of two Green originals ("Green Jeans" and the title track) and Duke Pearson's Middle Eastern-tinged "Bedouin," plus the bonus cut "Wives and Lovers," a swinging Bacharach pop tune not on the Japanese issue. The group interplay is consistently strong, but really the spotlight falls chiefly on Green, whose crystal-clear articulation flourishes in this setting. And, for all of Matador's advanced musicality, it ends up being surprisingly accessible. This sound may not be Green's claim to fame, but Matador remains one of his greatest achievements. ~ Steve Huey Grant Green Matador Songs Purchase Matador CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Bobby Hutcherson Stick-Up! | | Grant Green Born To Be Blue CD (1962)
Matador
$9.29 Personnel: Grant Green (guitar); Ike Quebec (tenor saxophone); Sonny Clark (piano); Sam Jones (bass); Louis Hayes (drums). Producer: Alfred Lion. Reissue producer: Michael Cuscuna. Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on December 11, 1961 and March 1, 1962. Includes liner notes by Richard Seidel. Although Grant Green provided his share of groove-oriented soul-jazz and modal post-bop, his roots were hard bop, and it is in a bop-oriented setting that the guitarist excels on Born to Be Blue. Most of the material on this five-star album was recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's New Jersey studio on December 11, 1961, when Green was joined by tenor titan Ike Quebec, pianist Sonny Clark, bassist Sam Jones, and drummer Louis Hayes. Tragically, Quebec was near the end of his life -- the distinctive saxman died of lung ...

| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Matador
$6.39 The Corrs: Jim Corr (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Sharon Corr (vocals, violin); Andrea Corr (vocals, tin whistle); Caroline Corr (vocals, drums, bodhran, percussion). Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002. You knew the Corrs had made it when they played the final JFK Awards ceremony of the Clinton administration. Playing it would have been achievement enough, but their status as a happening thing was cemented at the end of the ceremony, during the encores, when everybody was taking their final bows. Bill moseyed up over to Andrea, put his arm around her, and when she was looking away, sized her up -- at precisely the same moment Chuck Berry was checking her out. If that doesn't mean that you've broken America, entering its pop culture, I don't know what does, expect for maybe a VH1-endorsed piece of product ...

$14.79 “ A west coast sound with west coast flavor, but labeling Rockemical one dimensional is something that you just shouldn’t do”Arriving in Arizona in late 2000 from Seattle, Rockemical has been a man on a mission. Determined to get his life on track, Rockemical turned to what he knew best - music. Rockemical began buying beats from all the local producers. One day while at the studio Rockemical bumped into one of his old crime buddies. After talking the day away, they were both were surprised at each others passion for music. Instantly they decided to join forces and put an album together. Dualz was formed shortly there after - they got the name Dualz because the group consist of two members, Avery Baker aka Rockemical and Milton Barnett aka Alius. Little did they know that within the year they would have what some would call the “tightest” independent album (Paid Dues the Official Album) to come out of Arizona. The Dualz went on to release three more albums before the past they were trying escape ...
