As the cover artwork would suggest, Iced Earth's fourth album, 1996's The Dark Saga, is a concept album based on the popular Todd MacFarlane comic book series Spawn. Though most of the album poses the band in an uncommonly laid-back, non-thrashy mood, the songwriting of leader and guitarist Jon Schaffer is at an all-time inspirational high. In fact the band knocks out both the title track and the excellent "I Died for You" before the furious "Violate" provides the first taste of a double kick drum. Versatile singer Matthew Barlow is impressive throughout but the remarkable interplay between Schaffer and lead guitarist Randall Shawver is the album's true highlight, most notably on the dual harmonies of "The Hunter." Some of the momentum is lost with "The Suffering," a three-song suite that tends to plod along at times, but overall this is a strong album, and one of the band's best. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

One of the best records of Iced Earth This is, with Something Wicked, a very good heavy metal cd. Don't miss the hunter or The Suffering. See ya!!! Submitted by josephdez (Esparreguera, BCN, Spain) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Heavy Metal Spawns Fine Album A bit of a different Iced Earth album, as a story of comic book character Spawn is told in song. Solid playing and still-clean drumming make this a worthwhile listen. Submitted by a reviewer (Plano, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Deserves five stars... This album definitely deserves five stars for the last four songs on the CD. The thing about Iced Earth is that they do not always come together and that is evident on the rest of the songs, but those last four are some of the best songs ever written; real concept material! -O Submitted by a reviewer (Sarnia, On) Was This Review Helpful? Dark Saga album
$16.39 It’s a given that when Kelly Ruth steps on stage she will enchant her audience with the smooth sounds of her jazzy lyrics. But this solo artist doesn’t require a guitar to get her fans snapping along to her folk music vibrations-all she needs is an upright bass. Alone or accompanied by a six-piece band, this seasoned musician is known for her soothing stage performance and entrancing vocals. Compared by fans to such musicians as Norah Jones, Feist, and Carole King, Kelly Ruth has a unique style that speaks–and sings–for itself. A graduate of the Capital Area School for the Arts in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Kelly Ruth was originally part of a small-town female folk trio, The Rainy Janes. She has since honed her musical talent at a number of notable colleges, including the Chicago College of Performing Arts and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, as well as Old Town School of Folk Music. Kelly Ruth has toured with the folk-indie band, Raise Up Roof Beams. Displaying her talents both vocally and on the upright and electric bass, she and the Roof Beams have traveled the east cost and mid-west, appearing at such venues ...
| | Son Of Pearl Mellowist CD (2009)
Dark Saga CD music
$17.69 Son OF Pearl… Bassist, Songwriter …Poet returns with “The Mellowist”. A true offering of Neo-Jazz. On “LOVING YOU (AFTER THE STORM) the Mellowist, opens the cd with a bass heavy 808 drum drop melody to moments of salacious memories laced with 8 string-ability. Pearl keeps the vibe moving with such songs as “Blue Ezzence” and a tribute song to his Aunt entitled “BLUE SHOES RED COAT” In the 3 years that it took to compose and arrange and perform the songs and the vibe that he intended to transcend, changes in life come and go as he expresses so in the tracks. When you listen to “DIRTY JAZZ” (FMPS) it brings forth that vision that you may have when that one dancer that continues to visits you in your dreams all the time with the red pumps from the west coast and never leaves the night “un- interesting” comes to mind or put it like this.. you will never be in the “Un-enjoyment line” if it was left up to her. Or when you feel the reality in the song intensity of “SHELIKES2BONTOP” You know that the bass player is one with the emotion and the moment that is being display in this musical love session. “RUBY’S GROOVE “reminds you of a mellow moment that can’t be forgotten and shared over and over again as you sit back and drink “Moscata” as the breeze on the beach of your mind blows memories your way from back in the day…. We all need a blessing now and then some of us more than others... the choir sings so sweetly on “RAIN ON ME”…. And the blessings we be yours if you try and you will catch on for Son OF pearl is only here to soothe and move the masses and let the groove be thick like molasses and sweet to your mind as you find the time to just dig deeper in your soul mine. The cd ends with SWEET TEAA’S THEME” every hero needs his theme music and here you have it, we all need to laugh and feel the joy of the spirit no matter how hard the times maybe and the theme song works well here. There is more to listen to on the cd but as you find these tunes you will find the place where Son OF Pearl desires ...
