The Italian goth metal act's 1999 album. Nine tracks. Century Media.
Lacuna Coil includes: Christina, Andrea (vocals). Personnel: Cristina Scabbia, Andrea Ferro (vocals); Cristiano Migliore (guitar); Marco Coti Zelati (bass guitar). Recording information: Woodhouse Studios, Hagen, Germany. On its 1999 full-length debut, IN A REVERIE, the Italian goth-metal ensemble Lacuna Coil offers up a melodic yet moody set of songs that prefigures the successful formula of Arkansas's Evanescence by years. While the group features both male and female vocalists, singer Cristina Scabbia often steals the show with her expressive voice, which is equally effective on amped-up, guitar-driven tunes ("My Wings") and orchestral, pop-tinged numbers ("To Myself I Turned"). Although the band would expand its atmospheric sound even further on later releases (most notably, 2002's COMALIES), this album reveals that Lacuna Coil's bold aesthetic was well formed from the beginning. Lacuna Coil aren't always the doomiest of progressive goth metal bands; in fact, they sometimes sound like a heavier version of Heart, thanks to vocalist Cristina Scabbia's throaty wail. But that actually makes them more accessible, in the best sense of the word. In a Reverie, their first true full-length album, bears some similarity to contemporaries like the Gathering and Moonspell, but Lacuna Coil have their own distinct sound, which draws its dramatic power from both goth and classic metal. A fine debut from a band that bears watching. ~ Steve Huey

the bands weakest full length. still, one of the universes g i listen to everything. pop, dance, metal, rock, death metal, prog metal. chav. emo. greebo. sk8r. im popular, im not a spotty geek. i love life, im genuinely happy. i wear calvin klein, bench i go to raves. i party, i get drunk. so before i go ape i want you to get this message: im not a goth. anyway, out of everything in this world (i believe you should listen to everything as there is so much goodness in the many different music genres)lacuna coil are for me the greatest band of all time. i don't care who sold more, i don't care who started the genre, i don't care about master of puppets and i certianly don't care if you like this review or not. instead, im gonna say that this album changed my life. the first lacuna release i truly got into i adore the way the songs all sound similar but still have very big differences. if i wanted huge amounts of variety i'd make a mix cd. falling again, my wings, stately lover, circle... these are all genuinely unique songs that touch the listener in a vital, spiritual embrace. yes, im mad for this band. but you cant blame this on me being scene. i like lacuna coil, him, nightwish, the used, abba, kylie, lethal bizzle, as i lay dying, spice girls, dance music, heavy metal, rave music, hip hop rnb. but this is what i listen to the most. oh, and this is the bands weakest album. but compare it to everything else in the world and i still give this five stars. i LOVE this band. genuinely i do!! A must for Gothic Rock fans Great album on its own, but slightly weak when compared to Comalies or Unleashed Memories. It still deserves a 5 stars.
Circle: 10/10 - (If you don't like this, you won't like the rest of the album)
Stately Lover: 9/10 - (Very catchy)
Honeymoon Suite: 5/10 - (A duet that doesnt go very well)
My Wings - 7/10 (Good ballad)
To Myself I Turned: 9/10 (Another ballad, but better than the previous)
Cold: 7/10 (Good metal sounds)
Veins of Glass: 6/10 (Look at it like every single Tristania song; cool name, but not that good)
Reverie: 10/10 (You'll want to repeat it over and over again)
Falling Again: 7/10 (Better than the one in their debut) Submitted by walteraquilina (Malta) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Get The Self-Titled Demo Their best cd by far is the self titled "demo" disk released through century media released in 97/98 it has all of the best songs from "in a reverie" , but with the nicer original melodies, and more raw production... since that self titled disk the band took a progressive step down through every disk... don't waste your money - get the the self titled disk - especially if youre a first time fan, and more so if youre a "die-hard".. | | Swiss Indian Orchestra CD (2005)
In A Reverie
$13.15 Orchestra? What orchestra? I hear you wonder - and rightly so.To be precise the ‚Swiss Indian Orchestra’ is no orchestra but a trio and the Indians are not Indians but Swiss. Nevertheless: the musicians and their compositions are all inspired by Indian music. Tabla, Sitar and Bansoori weave classical patterns creating a colourful carpet of sound, of filigree structure and bold expressive strokes. The Musicians:Roman Glaser (flute, bansoori), Eric Hunziker (electric sitar), Marius Peyer (tabla)Read the following Review and more Information about the Musicians:"This incredibly hypnotic album blends North Indian classical music, jazz and modern chamber music approaches for a completely intoxicating combination of harmonies, moods, colors and images. With tabla carving the way rhythmically and flute decorating the melodic lines, supported by E-Sitar, the Swiss Indian Orchestra gives a whole new context to Indian fusion. Delving into and refining the art of a carefully created atmosphere, sustainable and intriguing and mesmerizing all the same, this group strikes an ideal balance ...

| | Andre Williams Aphrodisiac CD (2006)
In A Reverie
$14.29 Since reawakening the world to his outsize talents with the raw and raunchy blast of 1998's Silky, R&B legend and self-described "Mr. Rhythm" Andre Williams seems to have gone out of his way to prove just how freaky he can deaky on each subsequent album. But Williams pulls back the reigns a bit on 2006's Aphrodisiac and the disc shows he can groove a bit easier and still keep the party going. Williams' backing band for this set is Iowa City's latter-day organ groove merchants the Diplomats of Solid Sound who, as expected, don't generate the same sort of noisy attack as the garage rock upstarts he's most frequently been teamed with in recent years. The result is a more laid-back and funky groove that's soulful but potent at the same time, fusing '70s blaxploitation sounds, Jimmy Smith-style jazz figures, and Booker T.-influenced ...
