(1 Customer Review)
Melissa Etheridge was the obvious choice to induct Janis Joplin into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 1995. After all, precious few mainstream rock artists of the 1990's revel in the kind of outward emotional turmoil that was Joplin's calling card, but Etheridge is one of those remaining true believers. Her songs have always pinned down unfaithful lovers, declared smoldering but forbidden desires, and stated her heart's trials and tribulations on the wings of rootsy big-rock reminiscent of Springsteen, Adams and Seger, all without the slightest trace of irony. YOUR LITTLE SECRET continues her straightforward ways, at times padding these tales with an electrified six-string crunch.
Without a moment to catch a breath, the opening title-track drops the listener directly into the storm of Etheridge's private life. Fronting a hard-rocking, stripped-down four-piece band, the singer has seldom sounded as convincing as when she insists that her lover "stop playing those eyes" and explodes with wordless vocal growls. Partially abandoning the acoustic guitar-based sound of her previous releases also energizes the driving "I Really Like You," on which she tries to tempt her lover with mangos ("your favorite fruit"), and adds a mean streak to the mid-tempo "Nowhere To Go," a Boss-like journey into a lonely Midwestern heart.
Most of the time, though, YOUR LITTLE SECRET is Etheridge doing what she does best--implanting acoustic-minded, folk-rock songs with filled and unfulfilled physical cravings. Some mask these desires in metaphoric images ("Shriner's Park" and "This War Is Over"), others revel in their seeming candidness ("I Want To Come Over," "Unusual Kiss"), but the passionate delivery that is the singer's inheritance from Joplin is evident throughout.

Q (12/95, p.137) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...Etheridge's raw, bluesy brand AOR sounds like Tina Turner sings Bruce Springsteen...it's hard not to punch the air a couple of times and discover the American lurking within..." Your Little Secret album
$7.15 In 1988, Melissa Etheridge's career ignited behind the full-throttle single "Bring Me Some Water" and her eponymous debut's earthy rock sound was hailed by critics and fans alike. The 1989 follow-up, Brave and Crazy, mixed a little grace into the grit, but was still in line with the trad rock of guys like John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen. While these albums had their share of introspection, 1992's Never Enough marked an even greater maturation in Etheridge's sound. Lyrically, it seemed to be the singer's most personal album yet, while a good portion ...

The inspiration for some of music's greatest moments has been drawn from affairs of the heart. There is arguably no human factor more creatively fertile than the darker side of love. For Melissa Etheridge, tales of heartbreak and passionate anguish were far less apparent on 1999's emotionally subdued BREAKDOWN. ...

| | Bill Kisinger Biodiesel Rebel CD (2006)
Your Little Secret album
$10.15 Hey Y'all,Get your OWN Biodiesel Rebel apparel at the link listed below. This is the beginning of my trip to an unknown destination. Watch that page for updates, maybe, I don't know. I did not even know I was going to write this note with this e-mail until right now. What I DO know is this: Last Labor Day, 2005, I was returning from a trip down near San Antonio, and stopped by Carl's Corner just north of the Y in I-35 north of Hillsboro, Texas, returning to the McKinney area, where I live. As I stopped to slake my Cummins diesel engine's thirst with B95 biodiesel, I found, much to my dismay, that biodiesel prices had crept upward ($2.92/gal) with petrodiesel prices in the wake of the Katrina greed scramble. My Dad, John Kisinger, passed away in December, 2003, from complications associated with adult-onset diabetes. From my 12th birthday on, he was always, as a farmer/rancher in Baylor County, Texas, looking for a "cash crop." He had 19 acres on my Grandma's place which was not in the farm program. One year it was field corn, Another, it was purple hull peas. Then he planted guar. Ever heard of it? It's a legume, kinda like soybeans. Didn't make much sense to me then (c1966), but boy, I was sure thankful I didn't have to SHUCK CORN or SHELL PEAS again!! Anyway, I thought biodiesel was to be the NEXT "cash crop" (if there ever was such a thing) for our farmers. OH NO! As on Labor Day last, the middle man got it! Boy was I mad! I spent the entire way back to good old McKinney writing a song called ...
