A double-disc set of B-sides, rarities, non-LP singles, unreleased tracks, and remixes, it's the mother lode for the hardcore juggalos. Of course, ICP are the kind of band that winds up only with hardcore fans, but even fans of The Great Milenko and Riddle Box may find that sorting through the 23 tracks is a bit of a chore, since there's a reason why many of these songs never made the album -- they're simply not very good. Ironically, amidst all this filler, there's Jason Nevins' clever remix of "Hocus Pocus," which only highlights just how pedestrian the rest of the material actually is, and it suggests that ICP would benefit from shaking up their rap-metal formula just a little bit. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine One of the few bands who can admit to having "songs that suck" on their b-sides and out-takes collection, Detroit's Insane Clown Posse throws in absolutely everything on FORGOTTEN FRESHNESS. Opening with the hilariously obnoxious, Cypress Hill-tinged "Hey Vato," this two disc set is filled with the over-the-top nastiness that put ICP on the map. Juvenile sex humor is abundant ("Fat Sweaty Betty," which carries an unsettling plot twist) as are violent murder fantasies ("I Didn't Mean To Kill 'Em"). Xenophobia is also addressed; "Willy Bubba" is a cartoonish, first-day-of-school nightmare. Side two finds even more raw material, notably the collection of rappers on "85 Bucks An Hour," where the ICP calls in the whole crew, even taking a page from the Jerky Boys, indulging in a little tele-terrorism. They Rock!! I think ICP is totally awesome. I didn't really like them at first, but after I started listening to them I got hooked. This album has really catchy "tunes" on it. I think it's one of the best ones they've ever had. Submitted by jess4u81 (Bay City, MI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Forgotten Freshness: Vols. 1 & 2
$10.39 One may question the need to remix songs that are already pretty danceable and funky, but the accent here is on Latin beats--salsa, reggaeton, bossa nova--as well as down-tempo grooves that breathe new life into old standards like "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone," "Heatwave," and " I Heard It Through The Grapevine." Cynicism upon glancing at the second Motown Remixed compilation doesn't necessarily require a purist mindset. Could Martha Reeves & the Vandellas' "(Love Is Like A) Heat Wave," the Temptations' "Papa Was a Rolling Stone," or the Jackson 5's "Dancing Machine" use some freshening up -- whether it entails a jutting reggaeton beat, piles of programmed and organic percussion, or drastic treatments of the original vocals and instrumentation? No, of course not, and just about anyone familiar with the source material will wonder whether or not the remixes are necessary in any way. While it's not indicated on the packaging, the theme of this volume is Latin music, with an assortment of groups, producers, and session vets (including Los Amigos Invisibles, Fun Machine, David Elizondo, and Randy Cantor) contributing remixes that tend to make for pleasant listening, provided you block out your love for the originals. The Fun Machine house remix of Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" seems inoffensive ...
