The Insane Clown Posse introduced themselves to the world (well, at least Detroit) with their debut album, Carnival of Carnage. It pretty much spelled out their ludicrous sex'n'drugs'n'crime'n'murder'n'Faygo manifesto in no uncertain terms, since subtlety was never part of their agenda. All ICP want to do is rock the house as if they were a third-rate Beastie Boys supported by a cut-rate Faith No More, all tempered with the sensibility that made GWAR cult heroes -- only with, you know, more sexism and jokes that are supposed to be street, but wind up sounding racist. So, Carnival of Carnage delivers exactly what it promises. If you're down with the ICP -- if you're a juggalo (funny how close that is to "jigaboo," isn't it?) -- you'll find that this album got them off on the right track. If you're not with them, this will certainly give you reasons to hate them. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Carnival Of Carnage Music Review Average Rating: (4.2 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Ghetto Insanity Welcome to the show, the traveling ghetto. No longer will the ghetto just be that slum that you keep your kids away from, that slum that you drive through pointing and gawking at. No longer will the ghetto just be a slum that you hear about on the news. If someone from this hell hole wanders into your neighborhood he is quickly noticed and harrassed and shunned back into the home you've given him. As you watch the kids play in the park on your street you never even think about the kids in the ghetto. If you don't care, who does?
Years of breathing the souls of rotted minds has created a bad case of 'Ghetto Insanity'. You walk their streets and are stared at as a freak show, less than human, an ogre walking the streets paved with gold. If those of the ghetto are nothing more than carnival exhibits to the upper class, then let's give them the show they deserve to see. No more hearing of this show because you can witness it in your own front yard! A traveling mass of carnage, the same carnage witnessed daily in the ghetto, can be yours to witness, feel and suffer. No longer killing one another, but killing the ones who have ignored our cries for help. Like a hurricane leaving a trail of destruction, the Carnival of Carnage!

mockery of creative thought!!! Icp create an image that is better suited for a chessy horror film, than for the rock scene. Their lyrics are, respectivley enough, sick and twisted. However, beyond their foulness and obscenity, is a little more than nothing. Submitted by a reviewer (lathrop, ca, hell) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Only for the real Juggalo/ette This album really shows how much ICP has matured in not only production wise but in their artistry. Don't get me wrong. I really like this album but it's only for those completeists(like me). Submitted by Alex (Oak Harbor, WA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | You Came A Long Way From St. Louis: The Many Sides Of Chuck Berry CDs (2006)
Carnival Of Carnage
$13.95 The Universal U.K. 2006 double-disc set You Came a Long Way from St. Louis was designed as a companion piece to their 2006 comp Reelin' and Rockin': The Very Best of Chuck Berry, an excellent 56-track roundup of the Berry basics. Where that offered up the hits, this 31-track set digs much deeper, culling album tracks and singles that aren't often acknowledged as part of the canon, including many songs that haven't been in circulation on CD. There are a couple of ringers -- the original single of "Reelin' and Rockin'" is here because the previous collection had the live version; a few songs, like "Sweet Little Rock & Roller," "It's My Own Business," and "Thirteen Question Method," are too well circulated to be called offbeat -- but for the most part this is prime obscure Chuck Berry, and it's tremendous. What impresses is the range in the music and the depth in the writing, two things that are evident in his greatest hits but easier to appreciate here, when the songs are largely not as well-known and sharply presented. This doesn't follow a strict chronological order and that's a blessing, as the mix and match between different eras of his classic Chess recordings provide a greater idea of the scope of his music -- or how it's put in the subtitle: The Many Sides of Chuck Berry. Of course, there's plenty of high-octane rock & roll here -- songs that have been covered by other rockers, like "It's My Own Business"; "It Wasn't Me," which Chuck covered later himself; "Big Ben," a tremendous spin on "School Days" concerning a too-loud alarm clock; and "My Mustang Ford," one of his classic car tunes -- but this also emphasizes his blues roots, evident in both the slow-burning "I've Changed" and the Nat King Cole shuffle of "Route 66." These, of course, are expected -- rock & roll and blues can be heard on all the Berry compilations -- but what's unexpected is the ...
