Before these pop-punkers made their way onto the album charts by way of 2001's ALL KILLER NO FILLER, they released the aptly entitled HALF HOUR OF POWER. Though this disc is occupied by the same post-GREEN DAY sound that would soon bring the band fame, HALF HOUR opens up with a satirical heavy metal instrumental, showcasing the sense of humor that's one of SUM 41's most valuable assets. The band's other assets, hummable melodies that ride atop a bed of churning guitars and pounding drums, and a seemingly inexhaustible supply of youthful energy, are present throughout this release. From "Machine Gun" to "Another Time Around," Sum 41 manages to be both pithy and powerful, leavening their punk attack with just the right amount of pop sweetness (well, relative sweetness anyway).
Sum 41: Bizzy D., Hot Chocolate (vocals, guitar); Cone (bass); Stevo 32 (drums).
CMJ (6/26/00, p.24) - "...Culls inspiration from the smart-alec pop-punk of Blink 182 and Green Day....They're not reinventing the punk rock wheel, but they sure spin a big wheel of fun." Sum 41 Half Hour Of Power Songs Half Hour Of Power Music Review Average Rating: (4.1 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Old School Sum 41 at Their Best! Awesome! Half Hour of Power is nothing but an awesome album for a first album. It has a more heavier rock sound than later album All Killer No Filler. My favorite songs, are; Grab the Devil By the Horns and **** Him Up the ***, Machine Gun, Makes No Difference, Dave's Possessed Hair / It's What We're All About, and Another Time Around. NEW SCHOOL ROCK is better, but in these cases, OLD SCHOOL ROCK is still Awesome. Hell Yeah!!! Submitted by 20018816 (St. Anthony, NL, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
PRETTY good i guess..... I think that Sum 41 is my favorite band and kicks butt but on summer they shortened the track which is gay. but i have all their albums such as chuck and does this look infected? and those 2 r MUCH better than half hour of power. But track 1 and 2 are really good. Submitted by homiegslurpee (USA!!) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not Their Best Work, but Still Good I first got all killer no filler, liked it got all cds, but i think this is the worst cd, the songs are short and stuff like that, but its still good. Submitted by ibdoggylover (Imperial Beach, Ca, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Garage band vocals but good nonetheless The lyrics are good, but deryk(the vocalist) sounds like hes goin thru puberty! The best song in my opinion is ride the chariot to the devil, and its basically a minute long guitar solo. Also on track 7 theres a good drum solo at the beginnig. The best song with vocals in it is makes no difference. Get this cd! Submitted by Kevin (Greenville, SC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$37.25 Some songs on this album appear in different form in the film HIGHLANDER.
A KIND OF MAGIC primarily functioned as a musical backdrop for the movie HIGHLANDER, but unlike Queen's other motion picture soundtrack (1980's FLASH GORDON), the album doesn't contain a single instrumental--they're all fully realized songs. Although it's not quite on par with their time-honored offerings from the '70s and didn't chart well in ...

Half Hour Of Power songs
$10.15 Music began playing a significant role in my life during my high school days when my oldest sister, Dani, would play Joe Jackson albums on our way to school in the mornings. After a few months of being force-fed albums like "Night and Day", "Big World", and "Jumpin' Jive" I was eventually hooked. Since then, I've always been in anticipation of his next album and soon began discovering new bands and sounds that ultimately led me to pick up a guitar, teach myself to play, and then write my own songs. I've had some success in the recordings I've made as I was a Finalist in two separate categories of the 2003 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for songs that can be found on my first CD "Wherever You Decide." ("Oliver" and "Stuck", Children's and Folk categories, respectively.) ...

$16.45 VARIOUS ARTISTSPRIMOSONIC RHYTHMS VOL 2RIVERCIDAL SYNDICATE RECORDSSka isn't dead. Nor is this album, by a long shot. This disc is filled with some great ska, dub, reggae, and rocksteady tracks from some of California's best skankin' acts. The Aggrolites provide some great dub with the first track, "Black Lung". Its sound is reminiscent of Lee Perry from the early 1970s. Chris Murray's one-man ska act contributes the moving song "Fourth of July". Monkey represents the Northern California ska sound with pride with "Sound ...
