(1 Customer Review)
ADDICTIONS gathers a goodly chunk of indispensable singles and outstanding album cuts from Robert Palmer's Island Records tenure in the '70s and '80s, as well as his last smash, "Simply Irresistible," and Power Station's "Some Like it Hot." The set balances some of the biggest hits with songs that are less familiar but no less compelling. People who caught up with Palmer in the '80s will appreciate early tunes like the stellar "Every Kinda People."
A number of songs have seen some post-production polishing, but still remain sonically faithful to the originals, though a radically reworked version of the tricky "Woke Up Laughing" emphasizes a wholly new rhythm scheme. Sandwiched between hits like a remixed "Bad Case of Loving You" and Palmer's Number One smash, "Addicted to Love" is the hypnotic title track from "Pride," which demonstrates the singer's facility with African rhythms.
Out-of-print in the US! Fantastic compilation originally released in 1989. From his first album, to his last, Robert Palmer was one of Rock's finest vocalists. This 13 track collection features including 'Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)', 'Addicted To Love', 'Johnny & Mary', 'Simply Irresistible' and more. Island.

$16.29 A prog rock classic, this is Gentle Giant's 1970 debut album.
Astonishingly daring debut album, not as focused or overpowering as King Crimson's first but still crashing down barriers and steamrolling expectations. The mix of medieval harmonies and electric rock got stronger on subsequent albums, but the music here is still pretty jarring. Kerry Minnear was probably the only ...

$18.95 "How should I describe this latest release from Dwayne and Jeff? Maybe I could say that it's what the Carpenters might've sounded like if Richard Carpenter had been Roger McGuinn and if Karen Carpenter had been Colin Blunstone and she'd avoided anorexia by using heavy doses of hallucinogens to keep her weight down. I could also say that Dwayne and Jeff's latest release gives a glimpse of what the Partridge Family might've sounded like if Rueben Kincaid had been Murray Wilson ...
| | Asylum Street Mercurial CD (2004)
Addictions, Vol. 1
$11.49 Austin's all-acoustic ensemble covers a lot of ground on this typically eclectic outing. Blues, folk, jazz, rockabilly, klezmer, new wave, and even punk go through the Asylum Street Spankers' retro wringer, and all emerge in the band's typically swinging, if slightly gimmicky, fashion. The Beastie Boys' "Paul Revere" is transformed into an authentic rockabilly breakdown, somewhat like a combination of Manhattan Transfer and Sun-era Elvis. Black Flag's "TV Party" goes the hoedown route and now sounds like something the cast from Hee Haw recorded, complete with snappy TV jokes and theme songs from Bonanza, The Flintstones, and Jeopardy. Not as giggly but far better is a radically reworked version of ...
