Animated; Standard Screen; Bio/Filmographies; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re Based on the novel D-YOUSATSUKOU by Hideyuki Kikuchi, VAMPIRE HUNTER D follows the exploits of the mysterious vampire hunter known only as D. Half vampire himself (Count Dracula was his father), D happens upon a town where a cruel vampire, Count Magnus Lee, and his followers terrorize the villagers for sport. D takes exception to the count's wanton cruelty and sets about taking out his gang, one by one. VAMPIRE HUNTER D deftly blends elements of westerns, sci-fi, and horror, creating a frightening, violent, and innovative film that spawned countless imitators but was unlike anything that came before it. Yoshitaka Amano's conceptual designs for D, influenced the final animated character design of the fearless Vampire Hunter. If I could i would give this movie exponentially infinite If I could i would give this movie exponentially infinite stars.
What can I say that hasn't been mention before? I have seen plenty of animes and second to none, "Vampire Hunter D" is truly a classic. This film is "before it's time" to quote myself. Undoubtedly "Vampire Hunter D" is the greatest vampire anime movie, film, concept, and spawn thought to ever be concede. And you can't mention the movie without showing love to the forgettable timeless theme song. A perfectly brilliant soundtrack to end the credits.
"Without Vampire Hunter D there would not be any Blade there would not be any Van Helsing the movie or Van Hellsing the anime." "Vampire Hunter D" is God, because it was the first to derive the notion of the Half-human half-vampire. And you got to give it up for being the son of "Dracula" himself." It was inevitable for the movie not to be classic. We all should consider are shelves honored and blessed to have experience this masterpiece firsthand. This is the last thing I will say about "VMD" and that simply is " words don't do this movie justice." Submitted by dartagnan2k84 (Detroit, MI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Princess Mononoke DVD (1997) Widescreen
Vampire Hunter D review
$17.89 A beautifully realized tale of civilization versus nature, PRINCESS MONONOKE is a true epic by Japan's master animator Hayao Miyazaki. While protecting his village from a rampaging boar-god, the warrior Ashitaka (Billy Crudup) is cursed with a rapidly spreading scar that threatens to end his life. Seeking a cure and a reason for the animal-god's attack, he journeys into the sacred depths of the Great Forest Spirit's realm. On the edge of this once serene forest, however, the Tatara clan have begun to destroy the surrounding land to produce iron. In retaliation, San (Claire Danes), the adopted daughter of the wolf-god Moro (Gillian Anderson), has begun raiding the Tatara fortress to stop their encroachment. Soon Ashitaka is caught in the middle and must stop the war between the humans and the forest dwellers before they destroy each other.
Miyazaki, who was personally responsible for 80,000 of the film's 144,000 hand drawings, uses the story's lush feudal setting as a character unto itself, filling the screen with vast mountainous landscapes and gorgeous wooded glens that recall his early film, NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND. The film also features battle sequences that are reminiscent of the stunning live action warfare in Akira Kurosawa's RAN. The startlingly fluid movements of these mythological characters are detailed far beyond any other hand-animated production, easily making this one of the most spectacular animated films ever made.

| | Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust DVD (2000) Widescreen
Vampire Hunter D DVD
$21.49 Combining romance, gothic horror, science fiction, and bloody action into a dazzling anime production, VAMPIRE HUNTER D (2000) takes the vampire mythos to a new level. This movie is not a remake or a continuation of the 1985 movie of the same title. That movie was loosely based on the first of Kikuchi Hideyuki's VAMPIRE HUNTER D books, set 10,000 years in the future. VAMPIRE HUNTER D (2000) takes its cue from the third book in the series, though there are significant deviations in plot. Here, the charismatic vampire, Meier Link, arrives in town in the middle of the night and spirits away a beautiful woman. D, the child of a human and a vampire, is hired to retrieve her. Racing against time and against another group of bounty hunters who were also contracted to perform the rescue, D fights a bizarre cast of Meier's henchmen, each of whom has his own unique and horrific way of killing. Both of the VAMPIRE HUNTER D films benefit from the participation of fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano, whose character designs for both films drip with the eroticism and decadence of a Gustav Klimt painting. Director Yoshiaki Kawajiri adds his talent at dreaming up gruesome enemies, which was also evidenced in his previous work, NINJA SCROLL.

| | Becky Sharp DVD (1935) Black & White
Vampire Hunter D movie DVD
$5.59 The first Technicolor feature is a loose adaptation of Thackeray's VANITY FAIR. Something of a gold-digger, little orphan Becky sets her cap for Joseph Sedley, the wealthy brother of her best friend Amelia. But even the dull-witted Joseph realizes that his family would not smile upon such a union and so never proposes. Frustrated, Becky leaves the Sedley household, and, using her brains, beauty and charm, claws her way into the upper class. Rather tough going, but worth seeing (particularly the recently restored version) a watershed movie moment. Academy Award Nominations: Best Actress--Miriam Hopkins.

| | Forgetting Sarah Marshall DVD (2008) Rated; Unrated
Vampire Hunter D movie DVD
$13.59 Nicholas Stoller's FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL is a romantic disaster comedy produced by the same team that made such hits as THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN and KNOCKED UP, headed by writer, director, and producer Judd Apatow. When he gets suddenly and unceremoniously dumped by his longtime girlfriend, television star Sarah Marshall (VERONICA MARS lead Kristen Bell), composer Peter Bretter (FREAKS AND GEEKS alum Jason Segel) is devastated. Miserably depressed, he seeks solace in tawdry one-night stands, but he is desperate to win Sarah back. On the advice of his stepbrother, Brian (SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE's Bill Hader), Peter heads off to Hawaii for a much-needed vacation, but he gets even more freaked out when he discovers that Sarah and her new beau, wild and wacky British singing sensation Aldous Snow (comedian Russell Brand), are staying there as well. Mired in sadness, Peter is befriended by hotel employee Rachel Jansen (THAT '70S SHOW's Mila Kunis), who encourages him to get back his life and pursue his own dreams, which include staging a Dracula musical with puppets. But Peter is blinded by his desire for Sarah even as he grows closer to Rachel and starts hanging out with some of the hotel's odder personalities, including Chuck (Paul Rudd), a drug-addled surf instructor, and Matthew (SUPERBAD's Jonah Hill), a drug-dealing restaurant worker obsessed with Snow. Segel, who gets fully naked several times in the film, wrote the screenplay, a sharp blend of comedy and drama, and is solid in his first major starring role. Stoller, making his feature-film directorial debut, gets the most out of his diverse cast and beautiful setting, especially Jack McBrayer and Maria Thayer as a newlywed couple having some bizarre sexual problems, and Billy Baldwin as Sarah's costar in the television show CRIME SCENE: SCENE OF THE CRIME. FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL is an outrageously funny yet touchingly sweet movie.
