Tunes Of Glory review Product Description

Tunes Of Glory movie was released Apr 28, 1998 by the Home Vision studio. When cold, upper-crust Basil Barrow takes command of an army regiment, replacing a warm "up-from-the-ranks" colonel, the stage is set for a clash of the titans. Tunes Of Glory VHS for sale The rank-and-file resent his straight-laced tactics and the officers dislike his snobbish manner -- and soon everybody's up in arms.

A first-rate drama about two Scottish Army colonels, one a beloved softie about to retire, and the other, a dictatorial young officer Tunes Of Glory movie.   ...See Full Description

Psychological Thriller
Tunes Of Glory film I always think of this film as a psychological thriller to some extent - it is certainly disturbing the way in which someone slowly and very publicly undermines and subverts a companion officer. One interesting fact: it's been mooted that Sir Alec Guiness and Sir John Mills swopped roles for this film before shooting started. Not a film for the faint-hearted or one to see too often, but an excellent offering nevertheless. Chris H.

Fantastic movie
Tunes Of Glory review This is one of the best films I have ever seen. Saw it as a small boy on TV in Scotland and prompted me to join the Gordon Highlanders. Spent 5 years as a soldier in this fine Scottish Regiment. Alec Guiness's rendition of Colonel Jock Sinclair is brilliant. The Scottish accent is poor but this doesn't detract from his brilliant portrayal of an old soldier. John Mills is equally brilliant as the "by the book" desk jockey. Both men seeking to run the regiment as best he can. I can't get this video in Britain as it has been deleted for some unknown reason. Silly really, it pays a great tribute to top actors and british film-making.

One of the greatest
"Tunes of Glory" stands out in my memory of 50 years of moviegoing as one of the most thoroughly satisfying movies of the second half of the 20th century. It's beautifully set and photographed, but many movies are that. A realistic conflict between Alec Guinness & John Mills, two characters whose own histories put them into irrevocable conflict, and both of whom lose in a way that portrays authentic human nature rather than Hollywood cardboard. The only complaint I have ever heard about it is that Guinness's Scottish accent is impure, but this was made by a former Scots cavalry officer. Personally I thought it was perfect, like the rest of the film.

British masterpiece
Tunes Of Glory VHS for sale I saw this movie quite by chance at a drive-in theatre in 1962 and so glad it has now been released on DVD. Great performances by all cast members and Director Ronald Neame's interview gives a terrific insight into the making of this film. Do yourself a favour and buy it.

Scottish Miliray Tradition
This film is a magnificent example of Scottish military tradition, beautifully set at Edinburgh Castle. Excellent performances by Alec Guinness and John Mills.
