Original music written by James Horner. Recorded at Todd-AO Scoring Stage, Studio City, California. "My Heart Will Go On" won the 1999 Grammy for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Song Written For A Motion Picture Or For Television. TITANIC contains new orchestral versions of themes from various productions of "Titanic" including the 1953 20th Century-Fox film, the 1958 British classic, the 1996 television mini-series, the Tony award winning Broadway musical, and the 1997 Oscar winning film. Recorded at Martin Sound, Los Angeles, California. Includes liner notes by Jon Burlingame. All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology. "My Heart Will Go On" won the 1999 Grammy for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Song Written For A Motion Picture Or For Television. Composer: James Horner. A clever attempt to capitalize on the Titanic-mania of 1998, Titanic: Themes from the Film and Show contains nine selections from James Horner's score to James Cameron's record-shattering blockbuster and seven tracks from the Broadway musical. All the music is performed by artists who didn't contribute to the original albums. Although the two musical styles don't really mesh, they're enjoyable on their own and result in an entertaining collection for Titanic fanatics (who likely own the original soundtrack albums anyway). ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine James Horner's score for James Cameron's epic romance Titanic is much like the film itself -- against all expectations, it delivers exactly what it promises. His score is grand, without falling into typical melodrama, and delicately romantic, without being sickly sentimental; it offers genuine emotion and excitement, with the haunting vocals of Norwegian singer Sissel providing a nice counterpoint to Horner's blend of strings, vocals, orchestras, and synthesizers. Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" may feel a little like an afterthought, especially after experiencing Horner's wrenching, affecting score, but its heart is in the right place. Nevertheless, it is Horner's instrumental work and its whirlwind of emotions that makes the score of Titanic a voyage worth repeating. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Penned by award-winning cinematic composer James Horner, the soundtrack of TITANIC re-creates the romance and adventure of the hit film. The story of the expensive and unsinkable behemoth that collided with an iceberg and quickly sunk has been told countless times. Yet the tale of the doomed Titanic has been turned into a love story, which underscores the triumph of the heart above even the most impossible odds. Horner's swelling orchestrations are equally inspiring and ominous, bringing to life the film's magical moments, from the ship's triumphant departure to its well-known sinking, running the gamut of emotions adeptly. Combining tasteful synthesizer sounds with symphonic arrangements is a bold compositional move which pays off perfectly--uniting the historical period of the film to our own, bringing the viewer closer to the subject. As a final touch, Celine Dion contributes a beautiful rendition of "My Heart Will Go On-- The Love Theme From The Titanic," which serves as the crowning glory in this touching and dramatic musical score. The soundtrack to the motion picture Titanic is one of the best soundtracks that I have ever listened to. This is due, in part, by how the music draws you in and creates feelings and emotions from those certain tracks. Submitted by c.harvey52 (Waldron, AR, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Seriously It's very hard to read some of these reviews and take them seriously when spelling and grammar are not taken into consideration.
Secondly, anyone can love a soundtrack or music but understanding it is a completely different concept. When I listen to this soundtrack and others I can count the timing with it, I can hear octave changes, key changes, etc.
This album IS amazing, however, James Horner is an incredible composer. The rest of us musicians only wish we were half as talented as he. Submitted by KristinM2007 (Florida, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 6 of 11 found this helpful.
