The soundtrack to a television special originating from the pen of author Maurice Sendak, Really Rosie is that rare children's album with the wit and intelligence to capture the imaginations of adult listeners as well. Sendak's sharp, clever lyrics tell the story of young Brooklynite Rosie and a cast of vividly etched supporting characters including the apathetic Pierre and a boy named Chicken Soup; Carole King's melodies serve the material remarkably well, transforming even the most deliberately silly songs into catchy, piano-driven pop confections. In fact, it's in many ways her most fully realized record since Tapestry, with a sparkling charm and heartfelt sincerity that interim releases lacked. ~ Jason Ankeny
REALLY ROSIE was a 1975 animated television special based on two children's books by the celebrated author Maurice Sendak. The story is about Rosie, a 10-year-old girl who lives on Avenue P in Brooklyn and knows that someday she's going to be a star. Clearly, Brooklynite Carole King, who had basically lived Rosie's life, was the only possible choice to provide the original songs for the show.
As a soundtrack, REALLY ROSIE is instant nostalgia for anyone who was a kid in the mid '70s; this "hip, cool, with-it" cartoon could only have been made then. The surprise is that it also works as a Carole King album. Looser and more soulful than many of her records--downright funky in spots--the songs are those rarities, children's songs that appeal to adults. Highlights include "My Humble, Simple Neighborhood," the alphabet song "Alligators All Around," and most especially, the utterly delightful "Chicken Soup With Rice." This remastered version contains all of the songs from the show plus four extra songs dropped from the original soundtrack.

I loved it in the 70's as a child and I love it as an adult! One of my all-time favorites! A great sing-a-long for a car trip with the kids!

My grandchildren had this CD and simply loved it. As I listened to it, I found that I fell in love with the songs as well and decided to get one of my own to have for the kids when they are over. I would recommend it to anyone that loves children's songs.

Though marketed as a children's album in conjunction with toy maker Fisher Price, LULLABIES could more accurately be described as a children-themed, adult-directed singer-songwriter album. Composed largely of gentle, lyrically direct, folky originals with a few standards thrown in ("Somewhere Over the Rainbow," "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"), the album most recalls Jewel's multi-platinum debut PIECES OF YOU. For longtime followers of the Alaska native's frequent ...

Disney Princess: The Ultimate Song Collection CD  (2004)

Really Rosie
CD $10.09  3.3 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
Disney Princess The Ultimate Song Collection is one of the better ideas for a Disney compilation: it's a collection of most of the memorable songs sung by the princesses in films spanning Snow White and the Seven Dwarves to Pocahontas and Mulan. The album opens with "If You Can Dream," a new song featuring all of the vocal talents behind the princesses in the later Disney movies. Like most diva collaborations, it's less than the sum of its parts, with bland songwriting detracting from the performances of Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid's Ariel), Lea Salonga (Aladdin's Jasmine and Mulan), Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas), and Paige O'Hara (Beauty and the Beast's Belle). However, the rest of the collection ...

Winner of a 1993 Parents' Choice Classic AwardRed Grammer is an award-winning singer and songwriter with a clear alike, Red is a skilled performer with an outstanding tenor that is recognized as one of the best in the business. Raised in Little Silver, New Jersey, Red completed his first two years of college at Rutgers University and then transferred to Beloit College in Wisconsin where he met his wife and co-lyricist, Kathy, a special education teacher. They began collaborating on children's music while Red was still lead vocalist for the legendary folk group, The Limeliters. Believing that other children might enjoy the songs, games and fingerplays that they had written for their young son, Red and Kathy released their first album, CAN YOU SOUND JUST LIKE ME?, in 1983. Introduced on National Public Radio's All Things Considered, their first recording was received with open arms by the critics. They still did not view themselves as children's musicians -- just musicians. That would soon change. ...

Michael John & The Bottom Line are back with their third release "From The Roots" Perfect title for this CD and to describe the band. This CD is original and they bring a much needed breath of fresh air into the blues scene. This six piece band is very tight and has a ton of energy. When you have a grooving machine for a rhythm section with Chuck Lee on Bass Guitar and Tom "T-Bone Broderick on Drums you can't help but to stomp your feet or get up and dance. Jeff Dellisanti is not only on Tenor Sax but also throwing it down on Baritone too. He also throws down a nice little surprise on track thirteen Skinny Dipping. Kirk Nelson on piano gives you the strong boogie woogie feel while also adding the Hammond B3 Organ to just fatten the whole ...

Amazing Adventures Of Chessie The Manatee
Rainbow Puppet Productions Amazing Adventures Of Chessie The Manatee CD  (2009)

Really Rosie
CD $13.15
There’s a giant manatee, a wisecracking seagull, a huge Sand Tiger Shark and more in Rainbow’s most ambitious project to date. "The Amazing Adventures of Chessie the Manatee" is a fast-paced program featuring songs, dance and delightful effects. It’s all presented in bunraku, a Japanese-style of puppetry where puppeteers are completely visible while manipulating large puppets — some almost five feet in length! The show represents a unique collaboration between Rainbow Productions, the Virginia Aquarium and Young Audiences of Virginia. The aquarium is one of the top ten attended marine science and aquarium facilities in the country. For 50 years, Young Audiences of Virginia has been educating children in the state through the performing arts."The show is a true blend of art and science. Its multidisciplinary aspect crosses all curriculums and many grade levels," says Lynn Clements, the aquarium's director.. "Children can learn about the Bay animals and their habitats, as well as an important conservation message."It’s based on the true story of Chessie, the Florida manatee who wandered into the Chesapeake Bay. In this story, he meets Seemore D. Bay, a seagull who leads Chessie on a tour. The play features over forty puppets including a bottle nose dolphin, a loggerhead turtle, star fish, a school of Lookdown fish, sea horses, moon jellies, blue crabs and more. The musical score features ten new songs including Crabis the Blue Crab’s "I’m So Blue" and "There are Two Moons Out Tonight" which is performed by moon jelly puppets which glow in the dark. Speaking of the songs, the stage voices were created by many Rainbow veterans. Tim Tharrington sings “I’m So Blue.” He was Hansel in Rainbow’s 1980 tour of “Hansel and Gretel” as well as a principal countless other Rainbow shows.Other ...
