| | Moody Blues Time Traveller CD Moody Blues Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
Initial pressings of TIME TRAVELLER contained a limited edition bonus disc.
Beginning with the single "Fly Me High" (released just prior to DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED) and concluding with "Highway" (an outtake from The Moody Blues' most recent album, KEYS OF THE KINGDOM), TIME TRAVELLER documents the recorded output of The Moody Blues. Included in the 4-CD set is a 48-page booklet containing essays, detailed credits and photos.
This four-disc set effectively chronicles the long, varied career of the Moody Blues. The history of the Moody Blues as most fans know them began with the arrival of Justin Hayward and the release of DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED. This pioneering effort was one of the first progressive rock albums. A concept piece featuring a suite of songs linked together both musically and thematically, it also broke ground in its adept marriage of rock group and orchestra. The orchestral sound was expanded even further by Mike Pinder's use of Mellotron. This album, well-represented here, not only set the Moodies on a path they would follow for years, but also proved enormously influential to subsequent prog-rockers like King Crimson and Yes.
As the band progressed, their sound expanded to include pop, psychedelia, folk, and hard rock. The key element of their sound, though, remained the orchestrated ballad. The band's '80s comeback--a phase successfully chronicled here--found former Yes member Patrick Moraz replacing Pinder, and the band stripping down its sound for a more radio-friendly, synth-laden sound. Aside from the mid-'60s Denny Laine period, all the band's phases are covered here, and a handsome, detailed booklet is included in the bargain.
The Moody Blues: Justin Hayward, John Lodge, Ray Thomas, Mike Pinder, Patrick Moraz, Graeme Edge.
Producers include: Tony Visconti. Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) A great band I've enjoyed the M.B.'s for many years.
I have this box set myself, and I bought another one for my son, who also
likes them, but hasn't been able to
afford the box set. This has all of
their well known songs plus some not
that well known. The liner notes are
well written, though a little outdated
with the departure of Ray. As a line
from one of their songs says, "Isn't
life strange". How true. Anybody
remotely interested in the M.B.'s will
enjoy this set. Submitted by tciriter (Seattle,WA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
4 Cds - Moody Blues - How Could YOU Go Wrong ! ? Yes, Moddy Blues fans...and nonfans alike (are there any?)...Before you buy another MB album, buy this one first. You won't be let down. At retail stores this set is anywhere from $60.- to $80.-. This price is way better, for one. For two, you can buy 8 cds from these guys and I would bet money on it, that at least 2 - 3 songs from those (earlier) albums are on here. That's like $40.- bucks your saving. Plus I would imagine that the songs you really want off of those other CDs are on this box set!
This box set is the cousin to Pink Flyods Box set, Pulse. <--NOT JOKING!)
This is the one must have for any (beginner to collecter) Moody Blues fan.
Enough said. Submitted by a reviewer (St. Louis, Missouri) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Weaned on The Moody Blues Finding this CD Set was like Christmas for me....it would be like a staunch Beatles fan finding not only a lost Beatles album, but a lost Greatest Hits Beatles! That's what it was like for me finding this set a few years ago. I grew up on the Moody Blues, bought all of their first few albums and went to their concerts twice ('77 & '05) but I missed a number of their later albums with school, kids, work, etc....Now to find this really was incredible! Songs like "Forever Autumn" "Driftwood" "The Other Side of Life" "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" and so many more were brand new for me and captured the classic Moody Blues sound pushed to the next level........I HIGHLY recommend this treasure. Long Time Moody Blues Fan! I guess I must have got one of the initial pressings because my box set has the bonus cd! Now here's my question? Is my set re-mastered? It makes a reference "mastered by such and such" but I've always been curious if some of the older pressings have been re-mastered in the technical terms they use today. This whole digital remastering confuses me at times. Well anyway it's an excellent box set and my copy sounds pretty good; really appreciate that they didn't edit out any of the orchestrated intros and endings to some of their earlier works. Saw them in concert later in their careers and it was just ok! No orchestra per se and Justin's vocals were a bit faint; now Ray still sounded incredibly good. Good listening! Great group! Kind of wish Pinder would have stayed on board though! Personally, I liked some of his stuff! Submitted by mheinen3 (Oklahoma City, OK, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
