Silence Between Waves music CDs
$10.55 Digitally remastered using 24-bit technology by Bob Norberg (Capitol Mastering).
Sinatra's years on the Capitol label (1953-60) were great years. His voice had matured into a powerful and poignant instrument; his sense of swing was infallible; and he was blessed with an innovative and sophisticated arranger, Nelson Riddle, whose charts fit Sinatra like a beautiful suit.
This one-disc compilation of 20 songs includes many classics: "I've Got You Under My Skin," "You Make Me Feel So Young," "The Lady Is a Tramp," In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning," and "One For My Baby (And One More For the Road)." The packaging is attractive ...

| | Will Downing Classique CD (2009)
Silence Between Waves album
$14.39 The title of Will Downing's 2009 effort, CLASSIQUE, produced by the artist and Rex Rideout, may be a bit misleading: it is not a compilation but a brand-spanking new collection of contemporary jazz-inflected R&B--in other words, classic Downing. The album's first single, "Something Special"--with its hand drums, loops, and slippery flute flitting around a well-placed, subtle horn section--is at its core a popping midtempo love song. Elsewhere, his cover of Barry White's "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little Bit More Baby" reveals just how deep the master's influence is on Downing. He may not have the full depth of White's baritone, but he gets close, and his expressiveness and emotional ...
| | George Benson Songs And Stories CD (2009)

| | Eric Alexander In Europe CD (1995) (Import) Netherlands
Silence Between Waves music CDs
$15.69 For a change of pace, Eric Alexander recorded this set with an organ trio. The fact that it was cut in Europe is not too relevant, since the musicians are all Americans. With stimulating backing by organist Melvin Rhyne, guitarist Bobby Broom, and drummer Joe Farnsworth, Alexander plays five originals by bandmembers (including three of his own) and a trio of standards. However, the originals all swing and mostly sound ...

| | Metal Church Weight Of The World CD (2004)
Silence Between Waves album
$13.45 Ah, Metal Church. Once one of America's most promising heavy metal bands, originally colleagues (rivals, even) of the mighty Metallica -- has any other band's career been as marked by internal chaos, confusion, and, let's face it, commercial indifference, as that of these Seattle natives? The odds are slim, and yet, conversely, has any metal outfit proved as doggone persistent at the same time? Surely that must count for something, and with the realization that 2004's The Weight of the World amazingly celebrates the group's 20th anniversary (even though it's only their seventh studio album in all that time), there's at least some cause for celebration -- right? Well, if truth be told, that'll depend on the listener. Most of the expected Metal Church trademarks (pure American metal charged with occasional thrashing nuances) are readily available here -- as are the band's maddening tendencies for songwriting inconsistency, matching every memorable turn like "Hero's Soul" or "Sunless ...

| | Field Music CD (2005) (Import) Bonus Tracks; Enhanced CD; United Kingdom
Silence Between Waves songs
$14.65 Field Music are a trio of northern lads who work a rich seam of melodic and angular guitar with indie pop arrangements on their excellent self-titled debut record. For those who enjoy easy comparisions, here are a few: XTC at their most pop, the Beach Boys fed through a post-punk strainer, the New Pornographers with a dimmer switch. Formed by original Futureheads drummer Peter Brewis (and joined by brother David and Andrew Moore), the group shares some of the herky-jerky, harmony-rich feel of the Futureheads but exhibits a much calmer and more melancholy and diverse approach. The 12 tracks feature loads of vocal harmonies, inventive arrangements (harmonicas, glockenspiels, saxophones, falsettos galore), and soaring choruses the likes of which put them ahead of their old mates and at the forefront of this ...
| | Kendra Shank Spirit Free CD (2007)
Silence Between Waves album
$13.25 Kendra Shank always performs stimulating and thought-provoking music, but this project is something particularly special. Abbey Lincoln has been writing songs (both music and lyrics) for decades, yet few other vocalists have covered more than one or two of them. Shank, who became a friend of Lincoln's by the mid-'90s, is one of the few exceptions, adding a few of Lincoln's songs to her repertoire and showing that she could do them justice. On A Spirit Free, Kendra Shank, her regular rhythm section, multi-reedist Billy Drewes (who is a major asset throughout) and occasionally guitarist Ben Monder and Gary Versace on accordion, explore a full set of Abbey Lincoln songs. Shank really captures the spirit of the music, digging into the words, phrasing some of the numbers like Lincoln yet putting her own personality in the music too. While "Bird Alone" and "Throw It Away" are the best known of the selections, the other songs also feature insightful lyrics about the world that are worthy of the very best folk music, with haunting melodies and unusual chord structures. The arrangements are creative and ...
