FOREVER CHANGES is also included in its entirety on the 2 disc set LOVE STORY 1966-1972.

One of the first pop albums to become a cult classic, Love's 1967 masterpiece, FOREVER CHANGES, is the pinnacle of the L.A. freak (the locals' preferred term over "hippie") scene. Singer/songwriter Arthur Lee's lyrics are increasingly fragmentary and paranoid, foreshadowing the band's eventual drug-fueled collapse. Yet these drop-dead hip tunes are set in arrangements featuring Herb Alpert-style mariachi horns, lush middle-of-the-road strings, and other tropes of the easy listening scene, creating a more unsettling sense of tension than if the songs were given the usual heavy rock instrumentation. Every single track is a stone classic, although second songwriter Bryan MacLean's contributions, the haunted "Old Man" and especially the simply gorgeous opener "Alone Again Or," deserve special consideration. FOREVER CHANGES belongs high on any halfway serious list of the greatest pop albums of the '60s.

5 stars Forever Changes is Brilliant
This is one of the best albums I have ever listened to. I can listen to Forever Changes over and over. It is triumphant and brilliant. Simply a must have for any collection. Don't miss out on this wonderful cd.

5 stars Forever Changes forever fresh
I've been listening to this album since I first heard it in 1969 and it still seems fresh and innovative.

5 stars Neglected Eclectic Classic!
A classic album in every sense of the word (it charted far higher in England than in the States), "Forever Changes" can be described as a psychedelic sort of Johnny Mathis, but that would be doing it a grave injustice. The songs, more acoustic and orchestral in nature with only sparse bits of electric guitar, perfectly demonstrate the tensions in Arthur Lee's songwriting and the stark contrast in the band's flower power and pre-punk roots. Brilliant touches abound: the constantly changing multiple viewpoints in the lyrics, the technique utilized in "..Between Clark and Hilldale" in which Lee drops the final word in the verses only to utilize it as the first in the next stanza, and the compelling mixture of violence and beauty in the words. I have owned this LP since 1997 and believe it to be a classic in every sense of the word. It belongs in every rock fan's collection.

Wilco Summerteeth CD  (1999)

Forever Changes album
CD $9.89  4.8 stars Audio Samples Definitive Album
Moving beyond A.M.'s Uncle Tupelo-oriented country-rock, Wilco's double-length BEING THERE explored the sonic vistas of the Stones and Big Star. SUMMER TEETH takes things a step further. A loose, inspired masterwork of rootsy power-pop in the grand mid-'70s tradition, it's the greatest album Alex Chilton never made. With perfect pop melodies and a knack for throwing things askew via left-field sonic elements, this is as far from the country as Wilco could be. Jeff Tweedy's ...

Live Plus One
All Live Plus One CDs  (2001)

Forever Changes songs
CD $9.89  Audio Samples
LIVE PLUS ONE features 2 live recordings, one performed by All and the other by All's predecessor band, Descendents. Recorded on March 30 & 31, 2001 at Starlight, Fort Collins, Colorado. Recorded from October 10-14, 1996 at Whisky A Go-Go, Los Angeles, California. These two discs represent the flip sides of the All/Descendents entity. All, being the band which somehow has more stature at the moment, won the cover and the first disc of live material. The Descendents are relegated to the second disc, without the nice big cartoon graphic. The lineups are virtually identical -- indeed, the album art of the bands are the exact same graphic, only with the lead signer swapped. Listening to the music, however, reveals a sharper distinction between the two incarnations. All, being the later form, has songs which show a better overall sense of pop craftedness. The problem is that All's songs lack the primitive drive, (post-?) adolescent emotion, and angst of a Descendents track. The recordings of the Descendents, made in 1996 during the "Everything Sux" tour, show a band which can still summon up the energy first exhibited on record in 1983. Not a bad feat for a band 13 years after the fact and with two different members. The constant non-vocal section of Alvarez/Egerton/Stevenson has grown since their first lineup in 1987. This can be heard in tracks such as "Bikeage," which has a bit more tunefulness to a track that was originally surprisingly melodic for a hardcore band. Even though the Descendents ...
Mountains
Thom Brennan Mountains CD  (1987)

Forever Changes album
CD $9.59
Thom Brennan's Mountains is one of the finest and most ambient offerings that Thom Brennan had made thus far. Thom Brennan's Mountains explores deep and profoundly resonant sonic atmospheres that evoke the beauty of moonlight shining down upon a mountainous peak as one watches from miles away. This is an excellently consonant recording and one that is firmly based in the sounds of beautiful synthesizer music, along the lines of Steve Roach's quieter stuff, including Quiet Music-Complete and The Dream Circle. This recording is interesting because it's as if all of the sequenced beats and drumming have been removed from Thom Brennan's beautiful work ...

Also available in a 3-pack with THE BRIDGE and THE NYLON CURTAIN. Digitally remastered by Ted Jensen (Sterling Sound, New York, New York). STORM FRONT is easily the best of Billy Joel's later albums. Upon reaching the early stages of middle age, Joel became more than just a pop song writer. By focusing his entire life's experiences into his compositions, Joel could write with much greater depth and impact than a decade ...
