Adams: Violin Concerto, Etc / Kremer, Nagano, Adams
$44.25 Includes previously unreleased tracks. Yes: Jon Anderson (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar, percussion); Steve Howe, Trevor Rabin (vocals, guitar); Chris Squire (vocals, bass instrument); Trevor Horn (vocals); Peter Banks (guitar); Geoffrey Downes, Patrick Moraz, Rick Wakeman, Tony Kaye (keyboards); Alan White , Bill Bruford (drums). A new Yes box is like a new Star Trek film. The same core group will buy it/see it whether it's crap or not, resulting in an endless cycle of repackaging that exploits the fans who made the franchises so popular in the first place. Yes have always seemed more of an industry than a band, so it comes as no surprise that their deeply rooted PR machine has dug up another collection of "previously unreleased gems," wrapped it in one of Roger Dean's hippie/sci-fi landscapes, and slapped on an exhaustive booklet of play-by-play anecdotes from fans and fellow musicians. Anyone who has followed the group's prolific history knows that its members have splintered and regrouped so many times that their side projects alone demand the box treatment. The Word Is Live collects performances caught between 1970-1988 -- the years 1972-1975, despite boasting the group's most lauded roster, seem to have never existed here. The band's 2003 reunion tour is also skipped over, focusing instead on the fragmented Big Generator lineup of the late '80s. Rabid fans will no doubt empty their ...
| | Roy Buchanan Live In Japan CD (2003) (Import) Germany
Adams: Violin Concerto, Etc / Kremer, Nagano, Adams
$18.39 2003 live release for the late blues rock guitarist features 8 tracks. Digipak. Repertoire.
LIVE IN JAPAN was recorded during the British blues guitarist's 1977 Japanese tour, and includes both Roy Buchanan originals and covers ranging from Larry Williams' "Slow Down" to Don Gibson's "Sweet Dreams." Liner Note Author: Chris Welch . Recording information: 1977. Live in Japan (2003) is said to have been Roy Buchanan's favorite of all his platters, and ironically, it was never issued stateside. However, as word spread, the title became an essential addition to his discography. Fact is that it may have never come out at all, had there not been a loophole in Buchanan's contract with former label Polydor, giving them control over his non-North American output. Joining the guitarist for his 1977 tour of Japan are John Harrison (bass), Malcolm Lukens (keyboards), and Byrd Foster (drums/vocals). They are likewise the core contributors to Buchanan's most recent studio effort, A Street Called Straight (1976), though no tracks from the album are represented here. Instead, the set consists of recent collaborations, definitive cover versions, and a few seminal Buchananclassics. The immaculate fidelity immediately separates Live in Japan from most other releases in his canon. The enthusiastic yet typically reserved Japanese audience ...
| | Insect Trust Hoboken Saturday Night CD (1970)
Adams: Violin Concerto, Etc / Kremer, Nagano, Adams
$10.45 Insect Trust: Luke Faust, Robert Palmer, Trevor Koehler, Nancy Jeffries, Bill Barth. Liner Note Author: Robert Christgau. How could a combo named the Insect Trust be anything other than eclectic? Hoboken Saturday Night (1970) was the second of two platters from an interesting aggregate whose core consisted of multi-instrumentalists Luke Faust (harmonica, banjo, electric piano, fiddle), Trevor Koehler (baritone sax, soprano sax, piccolo, sewer drum, flute), Robert Palmer (alto sax, clarinet, recorder) [note: Palmer should not be confused with the British vocalist; however, this is the music journalist], Nancy Jeffries (vocals), and Bill Barth (lead guitar, steel guitar). The rhythm section was fleshed out by a sizable and equally diverse coterie of session musicians such as jazz legend Elvin Jones (drums), Bernard "Pretty" Purdie (drums), Charles "Buddy" Nealy (drums), Donald MacDonald (drums), William Folwell (bass, trumpet), Bob Bushnell (bass), Ralph Casale (rhythm guitar), and Hugh McCracken (rhythm guitar). Collectively, they touched upon facets of the singer/songwriter, psychedelic, and folk-rock subgenres, while somehow eluding them all. The opening short and slightly demented "Be a Hobo" is a precursor to the non-traditional nature of the proceedings. ...
| | David Gilmour About Face CD (1984) Remastered
Adams: Violin Concerto, Etc / Kremer, Nagano, Adams
$7.59 Personnel: David Gilmour (vocals, guitar); Barbara Snow, Roddy Lorimer, Tim Sanders, Simon Clark (horns); Steve Winwood (piano, organ); Ian Kewley (piano, Hammond b-3 organ); Bob Ezrin (keyboards); Jon Lord, Anne Dudley (synthesizer); Pino Palladino (bass guitar); Jeff Porcaro (drums, percussion); Louis Jardin, Ray Cooper (percussion); Vicki Brown, Roy Harper, Sam Brown, Mickey Feat (background vocals). David Gilmour released his second solo venture in 1984, following the apparent dissolution of Pink Floyd. He had released a record on his own in 1978, but About Face is much more accessible. Gilmour has a stellar band backing him, including Jeff Porcaro (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), and Anne Dudley (synthesizer). The songs on About Face show a pop sensibility that Pink Floyd rarely was concerned with achieving. Although the album didn't attract the attention of a Floyd release, several cuts did manage to get airplay. "Until We Sleep" is rife with shimmering synthesizers and cavernous drums, and "Blue Light" was a minor pop hit, with Gilmour's trademark delay-drenched guitar giving way to a driving, horn-laced rocker. Pete Townshend wrote two of the tracks: "Love on the Air" and the propulsive "All Lovers Are Deranged." Of course, there's more than enough of Gilmour's fluid guitar playing to satisfy, including the gorgeous "Murder," a gentle acoustic ...

Adams: Violin Concerto, Etc / Kremer, Nagano, Adams
$6.79 Personnel: David Gilmour (vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards); David Gilmour; Rick Wills (vocals, bass guitar); Mick Weaver (piano, background vocals); Willie Wilson & The Tunemasters, Willie Wilson (drums, percussion); Debbie Doss, Shirley Roden, Carlena Williams (background vocals). Recording information: Super Bear Studios, France. Photographers: David Gilmour; Vlad Vinski; Ginger Gilmour; Jill Furmanovsky. Unknown Contributor Role: Phil Taylor. By the time of David Gilmour's solo debut, he had not only established himself several times over as an underrated, powerful guitarist in Pink Floyd, but as a remarkably emotional singer, his soothing approach perfectly suited to such songs as "Wish You Were Here." The self-titled album, recorded with journeyman bassist Rick Wills and Sutherland Brothers drummer Willie Wilson, later to be part of the touring Floyd lineup for its Wall dates, isn't a deathless collection of music in comparison to Gilmour's group heights, but is a reasonably pleasant listen ...
