There are few musicians whose music has indisputably advanced humanity. Reggae figurehead Bob Marley--a songwriter, poet, activist, and visionary--is one of them. The idea that a single-disc collection could represent the depth, breadth, and power of Marley's achievement is far-fetched, but LEGEND makes an excellent attempt. Every single one of its tracks is outstanding, and the artist's different faces--revolutionary ("Get Up Stand Up"), romantic ("Is This Love"), devout Rastafarian ("Buffalo Soldier"), and prophet ("One Love/People Get Ready") are equally represented.
In addition to his moving message of love and unity, Marley is a master songwriter, as the timelessness of songs like "Stir It Up," "I Shot the Sheriff," and the gorgeous, poignant "Redemption Song" proves. Of course, a true sampling of Marley's output would require some early ska material, the Wailer's debut (CATCH A FIRE), the definitive NATTY DREAD, and his later-period opus EXODUS, but LEGEND provides a highly satisfying, if brief, overview of Marley's genius. A record ...

| | Celtic Woman CD (2005)
Some Day music CDs
$11.39 CELTIC WOMAN is the brainchild of David Downes, a composer/conductor who was heavily involved with the American production of RIVERDANCE. Not surprisingly, all of the lights, drama, and musical bombast of that esteemed show are present on this production as well. Instead of showcasing legions of dancers, however, CELTIC WOMAN puts the emphasis on the rich heritage of traditional and contemporary Irish music, as performed by five talented female performers from varying musical backgrounds.
Though the melodies are often extremely simple and unadorned, the production is just as lush and majestic as anything on Yanni's LIVE AT THE ACROPOLIS, and should appeal to fans of that ...

Some Day music CDs
$8.49 "Un-Break My Heart" won a 1997 Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, and "You're Makin Me High" won a 1997 Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. "You're Makin Me High" was also nominated for Best R&B Song, and SECRETS was nominated for Best Pop Album.
Toni Braxton is one of the most promising divas of the '90s, with a sophisticated sound and traditional R&B style that puts her in a class with Whitney Houston and Anita Baker. With the help of R&B's leading songwriter, Babyface, she can deliver the perfect love song (such as "Let It Flow," which also appeared on 1995's mega-hit soundtrack WAITING TO EXHALE). SECRETS, her second album, is a soulful journey through her heart.
SECRETS combines Braxton's sultry vocals with the genre's more creative producers. Tony Rich paints the background of "Come On Over Here," Babyface and Groove Theory's Bryce Wilson beef up the track for the hot single "You're Making Me High," and R. Kelly provides the soft bump-and-grind sound for "I Don't Want To."
SECRETS is filled with original material. No samples. No remakes. And with a debut album that earned her the 1994 Grammy for Best New Artist, it is no SECRET that Toni Braxton is destined to repeat her success.
Engineers include: Brad Gilderman, Russell Elevado, Brad Gilderman.
Personnel: Toni Braxton (vocals); Tony Rich, R. Kelly (various instruments, background vocals); Keith Crouch (various instruments); Jeremy Lubbock (string arranger); ...
| | Bassholes When My Blue Moon Turns Red Again CD (1998)
Some Day songs
$13.89 A staggering 21 tracks long, the Bassholes' 1998 double-album, WHEN MY BLUE MOON TURNS RED, doesn't expand on the group's punked-out blues sound so much as hammer it down into a definitive statement of purpose. There are detours throughout, as on the brooding, Hammond-soaked "Swimming Blues" and the totally unexpected ...
| | Arnaldo Antunes Paradeiro CD (2001) (Import) Hong Kong
Some Day album
$18.79 Paradeiro is by far a more direct, melodious, and instantly enjoyable record than Arnaldo Antunes' previous and highly experimental album, O Corpo. Still though, it is hard to define what kind of music Antunes has come up with this time. It ain't rock, and it certainly ain't traditional Brazilian music, although it is clearly influenced by both. The percussion is very much in the foreground on Paradeiro. Surely, the collaboration between Antunes and Carlinhos Brown ...
