| | Raffi Singable Songs For The Very Young CD (1976)
Greek Myths music CDs
$12.19 One of Raffi's best selling recordings, SINGABLE SONGS FOR THE VERY YOUNG features 19 short, catchy tunes sung by one of world's best-known singers of children's songs. This recording, first released in the 1970's, has a timeless quality. It features some familiar tunes, "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and "My Dreydel," as well as some familiar melodies that have been given a new twist, such as the swinging "Old MacDonald Had a Band."
SINGABLE SONGS FOR THE VERY YOUNG includes instructive songs such as "Brush Your Teeth" and "Going to the Zoo," as well as a number of pop compositions, like "Down By the Bay" and "Aikendrum," that parents can enjoy too. However, what sets SINGABLE SONGS FOR THE VERY YOUNG apart from many children's recordings is Raffi's voice. He possesses a laid-back, mellow croon, one with roots in ...

| | Phineas & Ferb Phineas and Ferb: Songs From the Hit Disney Tv Series CD (2009) Digipak
Greek Myths album
$10.09 For anyone hasn't watched episodes of the Disney animated series PHINEAS AND FERB, it's highly recommended. It is a Saturday morning cartoon comedy that stars two irrepressibly inventive, multi-talented mischievous nerd geniuses (who happen to be stepbrothers), their vain, hyperactive, scheming sister Candace, and their pet platypus that happens to be a secret agent fighting an evil scientist. The plots are standard, and sometimes so are the jokes, but the characters aren't. One of the show's highpoints is the music, from Bowling For Soup's theme song "Today Is Gonna Be a Great Day" (who can argue with a power pop punk song with a killer hook that states, "This could possibly be the best day ever and tomorrow could be a million and six times better..."?) There's also the dubby dancehall of "Backyard Beach," by Ferb, the electro of "S.I.M.P. (Squirrels in My Pants)," and the fingerpopping faux-doowop, hip hop of "I Love You Mom," by Candace. While it's true that all of this music save for the theme is done by Disney's stable of teen and young adult singers and session vocalists (Mitchell Musso is in the mix), there's something far more enjoyable about this stuff than standard ...
| | Christmas With The Chipmunks, Vol. 1 CD (1962)
Greek Myths CD music
$5.09 If you ignore, with the benefit of "grown-up" hindsight, the fact that the voices of Alvin, Simon, and Theodore were somewhat shrill, occasionally tuneless, and arguably annoying to obnoxious levels, the first volume of Christmas With the Chipmunks is a classic holiday record, and it certainly is that. The minor failings of those three cartoon voices are easy to ignore, and ultimately dismiss, especially if you were a child or were raising one in the 1960s and 1970s. For kids the world already pulsates with a sort of cartoonish, surreal vitality, and never more powerfully than at Christmastime, so the impossible-to-corral Alvin, Simon, and Theodore are the perfect spokesmen (or spokes-chipmunks, as it were) to capture that exhilarating sense of anticipation, the dreamily translucent run from the day after Thanksgiving until the morning when Santa Claus finally drops off the season's gifts. You really do have to withhold "critical" judgment when approaching this record, suspend any degree of cultivated jadedness, and place yourself back in those size five Keds you or your children used to wear. When that task has been accomplished, Christmas With the Chipmunks reveals itself for what it is: an album that is not only amusingly charming, but packed beginning to end with a wide-eyed sense of innocence and bountiful levels of seasonal exuberance, possibly enough to crack the stolid gazes of even the ...

| | Venom Black Reign/Buried Alive CD (2003)
Greek Myths songs
$22.09 KISSING THE BEAST brings together 32 tracks including hits, rarities, and concert recordings from Venom.
By the late '80s, it appeared as though Venom's days were numbered. Having not successfully cracked the U.S. market (while bands that they obviously influenced -- Metallica, Slayer, etc. -- began making their presence felt on the charts), Venom's members started coming and going. But by the late '80s, original guitarist Mantas was back on-board (rejoining original drummer and mainstay Abaddon), while founding member/singer/bassist Cronos was replaced by a new member, Tony Dolan. Additionally, a second guitarist was welcomed on-board as well, Al Barnes. And just like that, Venom was back in business. Although they didn't cause a stir again like they did when they first appeared on the scene, they continued to issue albums and tour regularly -- keeping their loyal cult following happy. The 2002 double-disc set, Kissing the Beast, focuses solely on this lineup. And while the albums from them weren't exactly on par with such early Venom classics as Welcome to Hell and Black Metal, they were easily able to keep pace with most of the burgeoning thrash and death metal bands of the day. Covering the years 1989 through 1993, you get studio standouts ("Cursed," "I'm Paralysed," etc.), as well as live re-recordings of the group's early classics ("Black Metal," "Teacher's Pet," etc.). Since the 2005 four-disc Venom box set, MMV, focuses solely on the group's Cronos era, Kissing the ...
