As the Ramones, Buzzcocks and countless other pop-punk masters have proved, perfect pop isn't quite as easy as it seems. One needs a good sense of humor, and a strong balance of chops and songwriting. Silly song titles don't hurt either.
The Mr. T Experience combine these qualities with breakneck speeds and monster riffs, on songs penned by a guy named Dr. Frank--what more could you ask for? The band plays on these clever, simplistic tendencies on tracks like "Dumb Little Band" and "Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba," and throughout LOVE IS DEAD, their winning humor and tight, to-the-point songs act like charms. Love might be dead, but the Mr. T Experience proves that strong power pop is not.
Wearing their Ramones influences even more prominently on their sleeves, the MFX "Starship" returned with another knockout album. "Dumb Little Band" is an honest reaction by a dumb little band that was left behind by their punk rock Gilman Street peers who hit the big time. Most of these songs, including "I Just Wanna Do It with You," "Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba," and "I Fell for You" (among others), are winners. ~ Kembrew McLeod
The Mr. T Experience: Dr. Frank (guitar, vocals); Joel Reader (bass, vocals); Jym (drums).
Additional personnel: Paige O'Donoghue (triangle).
Melody Maker (3/16/96, p.38) - "...The song,`Dumb Little Band,' is dead on, but `Semi OK' is way too modest..." Musician (6/96, p.90) - "...these guys get the proper midrange guitar roar and a big warm bass tone that's an absolute prerequisite to enjoying their energy, tight playing and humorous songwriting..." NME (Magazine) (2/10/96, p.49) - 7 (out of 10) - "...[Mr. T Experience] clearly have...no intention of changing your life....they do have a knack for bashing out teen-angst pogo-pop fury...and end up with an uncomplicated, but superbly dumb punk-rock album..." Love Is Dead album
$13.89 Continuing pretty thoroughly in Ima's vein, ESCM is another collection of ambient-progressive electronic music with as much interest in new age blissouts as dancefloor action. This said, ESCM is stronger all around, with a more varied sense of overall rhythm dynamics than the basic build-and-release trance climaxes that were the bread and butter of Ima. Opening track "Firewater" shows this well with its initial rhythm, a shuddering, slightly distorted tribal drum stomp instead of a straight pulse. Swooping synths and ecstatic vocals mix with deep spoken-word vocals about "fire ...

Love Is Dead music CDs
$13.89 Careen comes from the N.W. United States, Portland, Oregon. Members spent their childhoods in Harbin, China, Cote D'Ivoire West Africa, and Portland, Oregon. They played music and sports and were child stage actors; destiny led them here. Careen is a Pop/Rock band. Careen is an American rock band. Taste the candy, choke, and revel. Three, I mean four, genres collide to make Careen's music: rock from Foo Fighters and Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, sugar from The Cars and Fountains of Wayne, Brit-ness from The Kinks and The Rolling Stones, or The Cure singles, and Americana from Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, and R.E.M.These guys will take all takers for a ride with a vision driven by conscience and heart. You don't even know. Think of the last band you heard that had confidence, then take off the laziness and add songs you actually cared about after you broke up with the bass player.Careen began in 2002. Singer/guitarist, Drew Grow wrote a lot of songs that winter, and good buddy, guitarist Patrick Tetreault, agreed to record them. By the fall, Matthew Kronbach(bass guitar), Graeme Enkelis(keyboards, Midi), and Andy Uppendahl(drums) had joined the scrappy, bourgeoning group, and with the release of their first demos("Dangerously In The Red", 11/02) the band was born. Originally appearing under the names "Ping!" and "The Marching Hearts", the band eventually settled on "Careen"(from an early song lyric). Naming a band is hard, but ours still sounds pretty good to us--not like "Staind" or "12 Stone Altar" or "Duck Butter". Patrick played violin as a child, one of those classically trained orchestral geniuses, now he is our guitarist. Matt is bilingual, he speaks West African French. Graeme wins every time he plays Encore (that parlor game where it helps if you know the lyrics and melodies of obscure songs). I was a quite successful gymnast. I bet you don't even ...

$18.99 The Gary Bonner Singers, although launched in October 1995, have distinguished themselves as a choral ensemble of musical excellence and versatility; contagious, sparkling performance; and warm, vibrant choral tone. They have completed 18 recordings, including three of which were produced and distributed by Word Music, three commissioned albums, and five Christmas albums, the most recent released in March 2006.In both December 2006 and 2008, they were honored to perform at the White House Holiday Open House, chosen from over 10,000 applicants. They were also the featured choir in the 1996 Salvation Army's 'Army of Stars' Christmas Eve radio program with narrator Jack Lemmon and guest artist Steven Curtis Chapman. They have performed at the Crystal Cathedral, Church on the Way, Knotts Berry Farm's New Year's Eve 'Praise 2000', in numerous Community Concert Series, including Inland Empire, Fullerton, Bakersfield, and Glendale, and with the Capistrano Valley Symphony. Ranging in age from 18 to 65, the singers represent a wide diversity of backgrounds and occupations. Audiences respond enthusiastically to the 65-voice ensemble's full range of choral music and unique style which emphasizes communication and relationship with the audience. Dr. Gary Bonner, has what is described as an "intangible magic" when it comes to creating choral music, a sound and experience that is related to the connection between the conductor, performers, and audience, creating an elusive, yet identifiable, quality which makes a performance come alive. Dr. Bonner is an internationally recognized conductor and trainer of conductors. He is currently Dean of the School of Music at California ...
