The majestic brilliance of this late-career Badfinger album will forever be clouded by the tragic circumstances surrounding its release. Contractually obligated to Warner Brothers to release six albums in three years, the band was in danger of exhausting their creative resources, but between the spirited admonishments of producer Chris Thomas (whose touch is especially felt on the horn- and string-embroidered tracks), Pete Ham's masterly songwriting, and the band's easy musical rapport and lush vocal harmonies, they banged out a classic. The album barely got a chance to see the light of day before it was recalled in 1975 due to a label/management lawsuit. The band was dropped from Warner Brothers, lost a good chunk of money, and were chastened by the experience. In Ham's case, he was utterly demoralized, and ended up committing suicide shortly after. His creative spark lives on in gems like "Meanwhile Back At The Ranch" and the crackling power-pop classic "Just a Chance."

Dutch import.Q (4/00, p.106) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...great songs aplenty and Badfinger were convinced that this album was their most cohesive yet. They were right. If it's half an hour of Beatles-soaked pop that you're after then this is just perfect." Mojo (Publisher) (4/00, p.116) - "...A band turning stress and misery into pop genius....captures the same quality of '70s melancholic ecstasy as Alan Price's O LUCKY MAN or the theme from WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE LUCKY LADS..." $11.19 BADFINGER is the reissue of the 1974 debut by this melodic U.K. rock band and features the songs "I Miss You," "Shine On," "Song For A Lost Friend," and "Lonely You."
The first Badfinger album recorded for Warner Brothers after the band's infamous split with Apple Records, this self-titled 1974 collection was unleashed on the public so close to the release of their last Apple album (ASS), that it, sadly, did not get quite the required opportunity to shine in its own light. But, decades later, the album shines on indeed, with the gorgeous, ...

Wish You Were Here album
$20.75 Though George Harrison's solo albums for most of the 1970s and early '80s were uneven, often slapdash affairs, 1970's ALL THINGS MUST PASS is a brilliant piece of work. Produced by Phil Spector, whose expansive, majestic arrangements and sonic ...

Wish You Were Here CD music
$13.15 And so there was Pocket Metropolis instead.Instead of what? you ask. Well, let me tell you:Somewhere within the husky dark woods of Dalecarlia in the middle of Sweden, a trio was constituted. Music was the common ground and to make it together seemed a natural thing to do. It wasn't. During a hectic week around christmas '05 six songs were recorded but hell followed with it. " -There was a foot amputation at some point.. a barstool showdown and a five star hotel bill no onefelt even remotely responsible for. It was awkward. There we were, three strangers supposedly makingmusic together.. but things kinda got out of hand.. obstacles if you will. " Johan reveals. Crip Crutch explains:" - I had my gameboy. I started to program that shit. It took a good few days before the others realisedI was actually making music with it. They thought I was just being lazy with Tetris."Andre the giant answers quickly:" -Dude, the melodies were russian sounding..."Andre had a background in the local heavy metal scene but gained an interest for funk music and he got good, real good. The expectations were high on his performance." -I felt I could bring.. a string. Nah mean?" he laughs out hard." -These guys knew nothing. No instruments, they couldn't sing ...
