Dutch remastered rerelease contains three bonus cuts--"Daytime Nighttime Suffering," "Wonderful Christmastime," and "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reggae." Back to the Egg is Paul McCartney's attempt to get back to rock & roll after the soft rock of London Town. Assembling a new lineup of Wings, McCartney leads the group through a set of his most undistinguished songs, ranging from the forced arena rock of "Old Siam, Sir" to the formulaic adult contemporary pap of "Arrow Through Me" -- and those are two of the more memorable cuts on the record. Part of the problem is the weak sound of the record and Wings' faceless performances, but the true problem is the songs, which have no spark whatsoever. On the basis of Back to the Egg, it's no wonder that McCartney returned to solo recordings after its relative failure. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Back to the Egg is Paul McCartney's attempt to get back to rock & roll after the soft rock of London Town. Assembling a new lineup of Wings, McCartney leads the group through a set of radio-ready songs, ranging from the arena rock of "Old Siam, Sir" to the adult contemporary pop of "Arrow Through Me." These are two of the more enjoyable moments on an uneven album that's nevertheless of interest to dedicated fans, due to McCartney's effortless popcraft, as well as the fact that this was the last record Wings ever released. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine BACK TO THE EGG features 2 songs performed by the "Rockestra," a McCartney project that collected a cast of star performers (Pete Townshend, David Gilmour, etc.) and put them in an "orchestral" setting (ie. string section, horn section, piano and percussion sections). The two songs are "Rockestra Theme" and "So Glad To See You Here." Though he's got an old school Entertainer streak a mile wide, in evidence ever since his early Beatles cover of "Til There Was You," McCartney never forsook his rock & roll roots. Consequently, even though he dished out his fair share of frothy pop ditties with Wings (of which there are a few fine examples here), he's always been capable of rocking out whenever the spirit moves him. In sharp contrast to much of the later Wings output, BACK TO THE EGG is full of bash-em-out, no-nonsense, guitar-driven rockers like "Getting Closer" and "Arrow Through Me." Even when he's indulging in droll whimsy on the order of "Old Siam, Sir" he sounds like he's ready to explode. Notable exception to all this four-on-the-floor business: "Daytime Nightime Suffering," a memorable, melodic examination of the debt all good lads and lasses owe to their mums.

Back To The Egg
$11.79 Out of print in the U.S.! Digitally remastered reissue of Macca & Wings' Top Ten album from 1973 featuring four bonus tracks: 'C Moon', 'Hi Hi Hi', 'The Mess' and 'I Lie Around'. Recorded just three years after the Beatles' split, this was his second album using the Wings name (and fourth solo release overall). Red Rose Speedway finds McCartney upping the Rock ante a bit. His three previous solo releases had been low-key, earthy and predominantly acoustic affairs, but Macca and mates started rocking out a little on tracks like 'Big Barn Bed', 'Get On The Right Thing' and especially the non-album bonus track 'Hi Hi Hi'. Featuring the beautiful #1 smash 'My Love', this remains a hidden gem in the McCartney canon. Parlophone.
This remastered U.K. import reissue contains the bonus tracks "C Moon," "Hi, Hi, Hi," "The Mess," and "I Lie Around." All ...
