McCartney ROCKS Paul was the heart of the Beatles if John was its mind, Ringo its body and George its soul. Paul was, is and will always be a song writer of conciderable tallent. John added a bit of depth to what Paul himself calls "silly love songs" yet after John the glitter persisted despite the depth of the veneer. Paul is at his best when he pulls out all the stops and belts out rock and roll for all its worth - "rock show" is certainly a reflection of this. Paul is entertaining when he flies off on a drug induced pipe dream and induldges in surrealistic flights of fancy -"spirits of ancient egypt" is proof of this. Paul is at his WORST when he succumbs to patronizing pathos about his aging parents - "lonely old people" is his contribution to this gendre. Makes me wish John were still around- "when I'm 64" (aliean call sign in Spielburg's "close encounters" flick) was Paul's only "oldies" tune worth listening to. Despite occasional murmers and valve defects, the heart of the Beatles will always shine like a crown jewel in one of the most influential musical groups of the twentieth century. May it continue to beat(le) on for many years to come! Submitted by a reviewer (Indianapolis, IN) Was This Venus & Mars Music Review Helpful? YesNo 1 of 1 found this helpful.
