BABY I LOVE YOU is a best-of collection of tracks recorded by Canadian pop singer Andy Kim.
Andy Kim had many of his greatest songs and successes behind the scenes as a songwriter for such effervescent pop groups as the Monkees. He did have a solo career, however, that peaked with the terrific single "Rock Me Gently," a smash hit at the time and a staple of '70s compilations ever since. Of course, that's on Baby I Love You: Greatest Hits, which also includes smaller singles like the title track and "Shoot 'Em Up, Baby," along with oldies covers ("Be My Baby," "Oh Pretty Woman") and some fun originals by Kim. None of this strays too far from the sound etched out on "Rock Me Gently," even on the slower numbers, and while nothing is quite as good, it's enjoyable nevertheless, at least for fans of Kim and '70s AM pop. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

The 1974 Capitol records LP plus others
This "Greatest Hits" Cd is in reality this; The 1974 Capitol Records LP in it's entirety (track 2 plus tracks 8-16), 3 Capitol songs that Andy recorded for a preposed follow up album (tracks 5-7) and three Steed records singles from the late 60's (tracks 1-3). This is hardly a career overview. Kim recorded 3 LP's for Steed and several 45's. He then recorded an album for Uni records and the afore mentioned Capitol material. But, if you want the complete Capitol records output (only), then get this.

At last an Andy Kim CD - unfortunately the EMI release is a major disappointment. Of the 16 tracks presented as greatest hits - only four tracks represent hits which got any significant radio play (Baby I love you, Rock me gently, Shoot'em up baby, and Be my baby).
Even Canadians who are most familiar with this Montrealer's music won't recognize the other 12 tracks.
And perhaps even more disappointing is the absence of any 80s recordings under the name Baron Longfellow.

Nights Are Forever was the breakthrough album for Dan Seals and John Coley after some sincere and excellent work on A&M Records in the early '70s. The sincerity of their days on A&M Records has turned to total formula by the time Dr. Heckyl & Mr. Jive came around -- and Robert Louis Stevenson expert, author Ray McNally, makes it clear in his book on Mr. Hyde that the true pronunciation is Dr. Jeekill (as in, "I Kill and Hide"). It is quite a paradox that this justified attack on the Hollywood system uses the mispronunciation of this famous title which Hollywood forced upon the world.
