Alarm Call songs
$11.65 Recorded in 1990, while Bjork Gudmundsdottir was still a member of the Icelandic alt-rock band the Sugarcubes, GLING-GLO provided the eccentric vocalist with one of her first moments in the solo spotlight. Solidly backed by Trio Gudmundar Ingolfssonar, Bjork settles into a spare, upbeat set of bop-influenced jazz tunes, allowing her exuberant, dynamic voice to carry each melody. While the buoyant title track could easily serve as the theme song for a sophisticated children's TV show, the following number, "Luktar-Gvendur," settles into a classic lightly swaying jazz groove. The majority of tracks are performed in Icelandic, with Bjork's delivery so charming that listeners will barely notice the language difference. However, those pining for songs in English will be pleased by the disc's final tracks--"Ruby Baby" and "I Can't Help Loving That Man"--two gently swinging takes on standards that directly point to elements of Bjork's later work, most notably her gorgeous reading of "Like Someone in Love" on DEBUT and her brassy take on "It's Oh So Quiet" off of POST.
Sings Standards In Icelandic W/Her Father.
Personnel: Bjork Gudmundsdottir (vocals); Trio Gudmundar Ingolfssonar.
Personnel: Björk (vocals); Gudmundar Ingólfsson Trio (piano, tambourine); Pordur Hognason (bass guitar); Gudmundur Steingrimsson (drums, percussion).

THE BEATLES (generally known as "The White Album" because of its cover) was a sprawling two-record set, highlighting the distinct personalities in the group as they matured and moved further away from each other. With the four Beatles playing like session men on each other's songs, the making of the album was fraught with tension. John Lennon's songs included a bitter take on people who read too much into the Beatles' lyrics ("Glass Onion"), reflections on loneliness and alienation ("Yer Blues," "I'm So Tired"), and the avant garde sound collage "Revolution 9."
George Harrison's songs offered black humor ("Piggies") and tender sadness ("While My Guitar Gently Weeps," with Eric Clapton on guitar). Paul McCartney provided both light, lyric songs ("Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da," "Honey Pie"), and rockers ("Back In The U.S.S.R.," the explosive "Helter Skelter"). Ringo Starr made his solo songwriting debut with the goofy country/ska lilt of "Don't Pass Me By" and sang the album closer "Good Night."
Recorded at Abbey Road Studios and Trident Studios, London, England between May and October 1968.
The Beatles: George Harrison (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, violin, organ, bass, tambourine, firebell); John Lennon (vocals, acoustic & electr
| | Gov't Mule By A Thread CD (2009)
Alarm Call CD music
$12.29 BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. The band's keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, Danny Louis, is a shape-shifter, playing to whatever is needed in a given track. His manner of coloring sounds inside and around a particular tune's framework is a large part of what makes Gov't Mule's sound so fresh here - despite the fact that they don't stray far from what they do best. Warren Haynes and his guitar are, as usual, front and center, his guitar screaming, his big throaty growl hammering down lyrics like a Southern fire-and-brimstone preacher with earthshaking soul. The material on this set is tight; there is less jamming but Gordie Johnson's production and mixing equalize everything at ten, making it feel like the disc is recorded live.
The set opens with the pulsing bass throb of "Broke Down on the Brazos," just before Haynes and guest guitarist Billy Gibbons enter and let the tough, riff-laden blues snarl get in and slash it up a bit. The roar is wondrously deafening and the pace is fierce. Likewise, the slightly more tuneful "Steppin' Lightly" does anything but. With its funky big rock trio riff, it kicks up dust with Haynes playing some killer funk-laden fills as Carlsson and Abst syncopate and pop through both hard rock and reggae backbeats. The hook on the choruses is a nice surprise, but it's anything BUT a pop song. Other notables include the Delta blu

| | Strength Behind Tear Bridges Between Us CD (2007)
Alarm Call album
$10.19 Emerging from the heart of the Orange County hardcore scene,Strength Behind Tears has been at the cusp of musical progression since their conception. Don't be fooled, Strength Behind Tears is no ordinary "hardcore" band. Each member of the group brings their own unique influences into the mix to ensure a sound unlike that of any other traditional hardcore band. While the notable heavy guitars, thundering bass, blistering drums and angst driven vocals are in place, it's the breakdowns, harmonies, thought provoking lyrics and well thought out instrumental parts that take these songs and this band into a direction that could be crossed over into any number of other genres. If the music doesnt speak for itself then Strength Behind Tears have made sure to always place themselves a cut above the rest when it comes to their stage presence and high energy performance every time they play. They have shared the stage with such national acts as: Scars Of Tomorrow, Death Star, Undying, If Hope Dies, Animosity, The Hoods, The Program, As Hope Dies and many more. Willing and able to play at any and all costs they have spent the last couple of years filling gigs and tours with all genres of bands and building a fan base that most bands would take a lifetime to acheive. Having done a national tour in the Summer of 2006 as well as venturing into Mexico to an overwhelming respose. Strength Behind Tears signed with Basement Records in December 2006 and have embarked on a spring tour to wet the appetite of their growing fanbase in anticipation of their debut full length "Bridges Between Us".Having completed the new 10 track disc, a full summer tour and numerous other activites (recently landing a sponsorship from Nephlam clothing) 2007 is sure to be a busy year. The band recently finished shooting their first music video for the song "On Your Back Or On Your Feet" Strength Behind Tears is completely devoted to the music they create and those who take time to listen. You will not find a band as passionate or devoted to what they do as Strength Behind Tears.

Alarm Call CD music
$10.19 Released in 2007, this 18-track collection features hard-rock hits from the 1980s and early '90s. A mix of power ballads (see the dramatic "18 and Life" by Skid Row, and the lovelorn "Nobody's Fool" by Cinderella) and heavy-metal anthems (most notably the Scorpions' statement of intent, "Rock You Like a Hurricane"), the anthology is the perfect musical complement to teased hair and acid-washed jeans.
