| | Rick Springfield Anthology CD - Import Rick Springfield Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
The '80s rocked to the sounds of Rick Springfield, with the singer scoring some sizable hits via his commercial blend of pop and rock. This release gathers 24 of his most popular tunes.
The Australian disc Ultimate Collection: Anthology is a generous 24-track collection that spotlights Rick Springfield's hitmaking years of the early '80s. All of the big hits are here -- from "Jessie's Girl" through "Love Somebody" -- along with three previously unreleased cuts that will be of interest to hardcore collectors. Nevertheless, the main reason for most listeners to pick this up is the fact that it's a strong overview of Springfield's peak, and a really entertaining one at that. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Rick Springfield Legendary CDs (2003) (Import) Remastered; Boxed Set; Australia
Anthology
$31.55 This three disc, 50-track anthology charts the career of Australian pop heartthrob Rick Springfield, including all of his hits.
Although he tends to be overlooked, there was a period of time in the early to mid-'80s when it appeared as though Rick Springfield owned the charts. Few pop acts of the era managed to fire off such an impressive string of hits as Dr. Noah Drake did, and all of his hits are included on the 2003 set Legendary. And a whole lot more too, as this import collection includes three discs -- focusing on 1981 through 1988. In fact, most of Springfield's songs from this era are included, including two complete albums ...
| | L A Guns Hollywood Raw: The Original Sessions CDs (2004)
Anthology
$12.69 Includes tracks recorded prior to L.A. Guns's 1988 debut album.
Before there was L.A. Guns there was Guns N' Roses. Or if you are more inclined to believe the liner notes, it's the other way around. No matter how the fable gets framed, somewhere in time (specifically Los Angeles in the mid-'80s), Hollywood rockers Axl Rose and Tracii Guns split to form their own respective ...
| | Jimmy Smith Any Number Can Win CD (1963)
Anthology
$12.65 Originally released on Verve (8552). Includes liner notes by Al Clarke.
Digitally remastered using 22-bit technology by Suha Gur (Polygram Studios).
With a fat, dynamics-busting horns and woodwinds section utterly transforming the standard sound of Jimmy Smith's trio, ANY NUMBER CAN WIN may bear more of a resemblance to Henry Mancini than to the rootsy grooves one has come to expect from Smith. Which is not to say that the disc doesn't swing; quite the opposite. Smith's Hammond organ sound is oozy enough to liquefy bones, and his powerful, syncopation-addicted right hand intensifies the effect. Guest musicians turn in fine performances, including guitarist Kenny Burrell and the 20 or so members ...

$19.69 In the '90s, emocore/punk-pop became an extremely crowded field -- and it certainly didn't become any less crowded in the early 2000s. There were plenty of Green Day and Blink-182 disciples during the Bill Clinton years, and they were just as prevalent when George W. Bush began his second year as president. Not that one has to be a United States citizen ...

| | Pete Townshend Rough Mix CD (1977) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Anthology
$6.49 The superbly remastered 2007 reissue of Pete Townshend's 1977 solo effort ROUGH MIX provides a welcome opportunity to re-evaluate the album. Townshend's collaboration with former Small Faces' songwriter/bassist Ronnie Lane resulted in one of the finest discs in his catalogue. The two artists mix rock, folk, country, and R&B for a loose, tuneful ride that's appealing back to front. Lane turns in some fine tunes (the gorgeous "Annie," for instance), while many of Townshend's tracks ("Misunderstood," "My Baby Gives It Away") are still showing up on best-of comps decades later. The band--which includes John Entwistle on bass, Charlie Watts on drums, and Eric Clapton on guitar--isn't too shabby either.
ROUGH MIX is one of the most relaxed albums of Pete Townshend's solo career. With this release, the Who leader leaves the thundering avalanche of his band to create a rustic pub band atmosphere. It's a damned notable pub band to be sure (with guest performances from Charlie Watts, Eric Clapton, and Ian Stewart, to name a few) and one can only surmise how much the late (and former Small Faces member) Ronnie Lane is responsible for the offhand ...
