As a general rule, you would expect that an album featuring a gold-selling number one hit, a Top Ten hit, and two Top 40 follow-ups would itself be a considerable success, but Irene Cara's second album had trouble staying among the 100 best-sellers. Why? That chart-topper, "Flashdance...What a Feeling," had come the previous spring, and most people who wanted to own it had purchased it either as a single or on the multi-platinum soundtrack album. Plus, Cara never established a base beyond her individual hits. This wasn't surprising, really, since, despite her participation as singer and co-lyricist, Cara essentially was the mouthpiece of Euro-disco producer Giorgio Moroder on these recordings. Thus, although she was all over the airwaves in 1983-1984, and although this album contained all five of her chart entries from the period, Cara herself failed to benefit over the long term, and as a glut for this kind of material set in, she was left behind. ~ William Ruhlmann

What A Feeling' (Extended Remix & Instrumental). 14 tracks in all. 1983 release.

What A Feelin' Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Finally available on cd, but misses an original track I own this album on lp released in the USA. Glad to own this on cd and grabbed the last copy in stock. I'm not happy that the original 4 1/2 minute version of Why Me isn't included (which is on the lp) but how can you really complain?
The extended 7+ minute version of Why Me is on th cd. The original lp's track sequence is out of order on this cd, but no harm done. I can easily fixed that once I digitally transfer the cd to minidisc which gives me the advantage of moving tracks that cdr recorders will never do!
I don't know where Dream (You can only dream) came from, must be a B-Side to Why Me, I don't know?
Great album anyway to own, and saves me from transfering the lp again. Submitted by aclockwork_oranges71 (Rostraver, PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

What A Feelin' album
$15.19 Sweets ânâ Treats features 13 Tracey Singer originals, largely inspired by grand family adventures as work-at-home dad to four children under age nine. Introducing such memorable characters as Foxy Joe, Hard-Hearted Haley, and the remarkable Mall Mom, with song styles ranging from old time rock ânâ roll to close harmony vocals reminiscent of late â40s Andrews Sisters, Sweets ânâ Treats is much more than a simple, happy, pop music romp. Undoubtedly, the upbeat tunes and clever storylines will make your children laugh out loud and dance past bedtime, but the seasoned listener will immediately recognize that Singer is a consummate professional trained in the âGreat American Songbookâ tradition. His wit and style shine through this album filled with sophisticated harmonies and intelligently crafted compositions, all sung with such refreshingly clear diction that itâs easy for kids to completely grasp the lyrics. Tremendous attention to detail has resulted in such special touches as the childrenâs chorus on several tracks. Many recordings of kidsâ choruses are out of tune and almost painful to hear. The kids on Sweets ânâ Treats are real little pros and âright onâ with their intonation, style, and rhythm. Produced by two-time GRAMMYÂź nominee, childrenâs musician Buck Howdy, Sweets ânâ Treats is a fun and funny musical adventure for kidsâŠand for adults who are not afraid to occasionally act like kids.More About Tracey Singer:The fact that childrenâs singer Tracey Singer (yes, itâs his real name) is a stay-at-home dad/musician does not set him apart from the multitudes of performers who juggle songwriting, performing and studio work with full-time parenting. What does make his story different is the fact that he is an MBA who traded a good management position with a Fortune 100 company and the excitement of the climb up the corporate ladder for a life of music, diapers, runny noses and the chaotically fun lifestyle that comes with raising 4 children â all under the age of 9! âOnce my first child ...
