The 'comeback' album from Colchester's finest continues from where "77 In 82" left off. 12 brand new studio tracks are featured on the blue vinyl LP, including the singles "Mutt" and "Judge And Jury" whilst the CD includes six demos dating from 1980. This is the first 'new' material issued on Captain Oi! and it's a damn sight better than Millwall's recent form I can assure you! Special Duties 77 In 97 Songs | 1. | '77 in '97 | |

| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
77 In 97 CD music
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less ...

| | Rosanne Cash List CD (2009)
77 In 97 album
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful restatement of her father's passions, only now, they've become his daughter's treasures, as well. It's an affirming story, but that's all it would be if Cash didn't sing her ...
| | Them Crooked Vultures CD (2009)
77 In 97 CD music
$11.19 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, ...

| | Jimmy Barnes Two Fires CD (1990) (Import) Australia
77 In 97 album
$17.79 Jimmy Barnes waited three years before releasing the follow-up to the hugely successful Freight Train Heart. Two Fires was the result, and you would never guess by listening to it that the gap between this and its predecessor had been so long. Two Fires is standard Barnes: arena rock anthems and commercial ballads topped by Barnes' nicotine-inflected ...
| | Dave Pietro Embrace CD (2004) Import
77 In 97 CD music
$10.39 Dave Pietro's approach to Brazilian music avoids the tepid attempts by Americans who simply add Brazilian rhythm sections to their existing front lines and expect the results to astound everyone. Instead, the saxophonist mixed and matched musicians from both continents in different combinations from one track to the next, fusing elements of post-bop into original compositions with Latin rhythms. Pietro's "Never Nothing" features adventurous solos by the leader (on alto sax) and trumpeter Scott Wendholdt. The delightful "Equanimity" suggests children playing, while his writing for the backing horns and reeds, along with the wordless vocals of Valtinho Anastacio, make it a song worth returning to. The engaging percussion of Anastacio and drummer Paulo Braga provides the foundation of "Cururu," which would likely get any crowd ...

| | Token Entry The Re-Issues CD (2007) (Import) Reissue; United Kingdom
77 In 97 CD music
$13.95 For a period during the late '80s, it appeared as though the New York hardcore underground was going to take the mainstream rock world by storm, as groups such as the Crumbsuckers, Murphy's Law, the Cro-Mags, and Token Entry were playing to large crowds and attracting the attention of labels. But a global NY hardcore takeover was not meant to be, as the groups never truly matched their local popularity elsewhere. Listening back in the early 21st century however, it wasn't necessarily the groups' fault -- it was more the music biz, who couldn't see how punk and hardcore would appeal to mainstream record buyers (keep in mind -- we were still a few years away from Nirvana and Green Day making punk "appealing" to the masses). And this is definitely the case with the 2007 Token Entry compilation, "The Re-Issues," which pairs two releases together, 1988's Jaybird and 1990s Weight of the World. While not as jaw-droppingly brilliant as say, the Bad Brains (interestingly, it was Brains guitarist Dr. Know who produced these two Token Entry albums), This two-fer shows a band that had no problem ...
