After the peculiar experiments of their second album, ALTERNATIVE HITS (also known as NO ESCAPE), 1981's EVACUATE sets Chelsea on the course they would maintain for the rest of their career. Less manic than their early records, the 10 tracks on EVACUATE are sharp-edged rock & roll with a few punky touches, rather than full-on punk rock.
The new lineup, no longer featuring guitarist Tony James (who would go on to form the controversial Sigue Sigue Sputnik) turns songs like the stomping title track and "Tribal Song" into riff-heavy rough-edged tough-sounding rock & roll as suitable for fans of AC/DC as the Clash. This reissue includes eight bonus tracks, including the superior single versions of "War Across the Nation" and "How Do You Know," along with their respective B-sides.
On CD for the first time and a corker of a release that now includes 8 bonus tracks made up of singles B sides. First released in 1982 by Step Forward Records this is one of Punk's finest moments and the quality packaging only enhances what is already a must for Punk completists.

Evacuate songs
$13.35 (MP3 Available for Download) This is a mostly straight-ahead set featuring Mike Garson's piano in a variety of settings. He takes "I Should Care" and "My Romance" unaccompanied; duets with the brilliant flutist Jim Walker (his musical partner in Free Flight) on "My One and Only Love"; plays three songs in a trio with bassist Stanley Clarke and drummer Billy Mintz; and leads a quintet comprised of guitarist Peter Sprague, bassist Jim Lacefield, drummer Mintz, and either ...
| | Faces Long Player CD (1971)
Evacuate album
$6.25 (MP3 Available for Download) On their second album Long Player, the Faces truly gel -- which isn't quite the same thing as having the band straighten up and fly right because in many ways this is album is even more ragged than their debut, with tracks that sound like they were recorded through a shoebox thrown up against a couple of haphazardly placed live cuts. But if the album seems pieced together from a few different sources, the band itself all seems to be coming from the same place, turning into a ferocious rock & roll band who, on their best day, could wrestle the title of greatest rock & roll band away from the Stones. Certainly, the sheer force of the nine-minute jam on Big Bill Broonzy's "I Feel So Good" proves that, but what's more remarkable is how the band are dovetailing as songwriters, complementing and collaborating with very different styles, to the extent that it's hard to tell who wrote what; indeed, the ragged, heartbroken "Tell Everyone" sounds like a Stewart original, but it comes from the pen of Ronnie Lane. The key is that Stewart, Lane and Ron Wood (Ian McLagan only co-write "Bad 'N' Ruin") are all coming from the same place, all celebrating a rock & roll that's ordinary in subject but not in sound. Take "Bad 'N' Ruin," the tale of a ne'er do well returning home with his tail between his legs, after the city didn't treat him well. It has its counterpart in "Had Me a Real Good Time," where a reveler insists that he has to leave, concluding that he was glad to come but also glad to get home. These are songs that celebrate home, from family to the neighborhood, and that big heart beats strong in the ballads, ...
| | Faces Nod Is As Good As A Wink... To A Blind Horse CD (1971)
Evacuate CD music
$6.15 (MP3 Available for Download) When this was released in 1971, the Faces also released LONG PLAYER (following the dropping of "Small" from the band's name) and frontman Rod Stewart released the seminal EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY. The three-album output was especially remarkable for the Faces, as the band was more known for skirt-chasing and carousing than recording music. NOD found the Faces fusing together a grittier blues and soul sound than on past efforts, which were marked by a rather modish sound and Stewart's then-folkier leanings.
The group includes enough heartfelt ruminations to add a sentimental edge to the otherwise rip-roaring mix of material. Among the latter class of songs are a shambling cover of Chuck Berry's "Memphis, Tennessee" and "Stay With Me," the Faces' only hit and the quintessential groupie kiss-off. Stewart's talents as a balladeer are no less effective, with songs like ...
| | Faces Ooh La La CD (1973)
Evacuate MP3 Album
$6.09 (MP3 Available for Download) By the time the Faces' fourth album came out in 1973, Rod Stewart had already become a solo superstar, causing stresses within the band. Stewart and founding member/bassist Ronnie Lane reportedly fought throughout the making of OOH LA LA, particularly when Stewart's solo commitments kept him from attending Faces recording sessions. That tension is perhaps evident in the grooves of OOH LA LA--it's probably not a coincidence that the folksy, acoustic title track sounds more like "Maggie May" than any previous Faces effort, even though guitarist Ron Wood sings lead.
Lane takes lead vocals on his own "Flags and Banners" and wrote the majority of the album's latter half. The remaining parts of OOH LA LA include Stewart and Wood's boogie-fried "Silicone Grown" and two songs spotlighting the inimitable keyboardist ...
| | Gary Numan Jagged CD (2006)
Evacuate music CDs
$12.95 (MP3 Available for Download) On 2006's JAGGED, influential synth-pop artist Gary Numan is firmly entrenched in the dark side. This ominous studio outing finds the British singer/multi-instrumentalist focused on atmosphere more than catchy hooks (a la his lone hit "Cars"), seemingly picking up where David Bowie left off on 1995's OUTSIDE (minus that disc's busy narrative conceit). Numan is clearly committed to weighty industrial arrangements on this album, as best evidenced on the heavy, brooding "Halo," which washes ...
| | Graham Parker Don't Tell Columbus CD (2007)
Evacuate songs
$13.05 On 2007's DON'T TELL COLUMBUS, his third album for the Bloodshot label, Graham Parker continues the remarkable streak of records that he began on '04's YOUR COUNTRY. Although COLUMBUS lacks the punch of the preceding SONGS OF NO CONSEQUENCE, it finds the beloved British pub-rock icon comfortably situated in Dylanesque singer-songwriter mode. (In fact, the buoyant, biting "Stick to the Plan" sounds like it could be an outtake from Dylan's MODERN TIMES). While many of the tunes on COLUMBUS have a catchy, upbeat feel, they are often lined with fierce ...
| | Barry Adamson As Above, So Below CD (1998)
Evacuate album
$9.95 (MP3 Available for Download) Barry Adamson is playing quite the "jazz devil" on As Above, So Below. The album sees the dark noir guru taking a detour from the more experimental electronica of Oedipus Schmoedipus into a cool, brutal concept album of aggressive, ominous rock-jazz. It seems that a great deal of Nick Cave's cinematic themes have rubbed off on Adamson from his days as a Bad Seed. Where Cave deals mostly with vampiric goth ballads, Adamson creates his art under a moody, effective jazz noir cloud. Many of the songs shuffle about with a determined sense of cool, as Adamson utilizes deep crooning vocals; he often sounds remarkably like a more sane Nick Cave, especially on "Come Hell or High Water." Perhaps Adamson's work on David Lynch's Lost Highway soundtrack inspired the tales of dead detectives and shady women detailed on As Above, So Below. One can easily imagine these songs coming from a younger, rocking, and more sinister Angelo Badalamenti, a frequent Lynch collaborator. The album's high points include "Can't Get Loose," "Still I Rise," and "The Monkey Speaks His Mind." "Can't Get Loose" sees Adamson cooly cooing over keyboards reminiscent of New Order, with a fun, suave xylophone sound and a sample of "Can't Get Used to Losing You" by legendary songwriters Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman. The song operates under a pleasant, humorous atmosphere, while still displaying ample doses of Adamson's warped, dark vibes. "Still I Rise" is monumentally ...
