The music here was recorded in the brief period between the American commercial failure of the epochal single "River Deep, Mountain High," and Ike and Tina Turner's reversal of fortune after nearly stealing the 1969 Rolling Stones tour. Few people heard it at the time, and it was unavailable for almost three decades.
Which is too bad--not only is it among the duo's best work, but it's hard R&B all the way, meaning it's the last chance anyone will get to hear Tina Turner singing Elmore James. Highlights include the title song, a James Brown-ish instrumental vamp (with stinging Ike guitar) over which Tina convincingly asserts her badness, her original studio version of Otis Redding's "I've Been Loving You Too Long" (her live version is immortalized in GIMME SHELTER), and three superb B.B. King covers (including "Rock Me Baby").
