Michael Ball Christmas Songs Christmas Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Romantic Broadway Voice Michael is from England and has a beautiful Broadway voice. His music makes me want to cuddle up in front of a fire and just enjoy his singing. He does a fantastic job on "When A Child is Born", "Ave Maria", and "A Winter's Tale". I'd listen any time of the year. Submitted by nfldebbie (Aiken, SC, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Wonderful Holiday Music I only heard of Michael Ball this year, as a local radio station went to all Christmas music since Thanksgiving. I heard the song "Driving Home For Christmas", and was taken by the voice, the melody, and the rhythm of this great song. I heard it was by Michael Ball, then did a search on CD Universe. After previewing the songs, I decided to give the album a try, and it was well worth the price. It is a wonderful holiday album, with many great performances, most notably "A Winter's Tale", "River", "When A Child Is Born", and the aforementioned "Driving Home". The duet on "As Long As There's Christmas" with Elaine Page is also a standout. I am completely happy with this CD and recommend it to anyone who likes holiday music by a great vocalist! To Me this Album is Most Beautiful I've Heard
To who it may concern, last year I purchased " Michael Balls Christmas "
on CD.
Well it has brought me so much love, compassion and feelings towards the Christmas season and what Christmas means to me.
As I heard last year on my cable station " Driving Home For Christmas " and said I have to find this CD..
so I came on my computer and looked up His Chritmas songs and lyrics much to my surprise I found it and bought it right away.
I listen to it all the time and as I just lost my " Dear Dad, My Hero " 2 months ago, well Light A Candle has become one of my favorite songs as it has so much meaning to me and brings tears to my eyes but Happy and Sad Tears as i know my Dad is at peace and looking down on me at this Holiday Season, but the words just strike you as it brings back old memories of myself and Dad.
Well Michael I would like to thank you from the bottom of my hear for having such talent and love for the music industry.
As my son is a musician also.
Sincerely, Peggi Submitted by draper0085 (Boston, Ma.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Purchase Christmas CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Linda Eder Christmas Stays The Same CD (2000)
Christmas album
$9.29 Brainerd, Minnesota-raised Linda Eder is presumably no stranger to snow, so she's an ideal candidate to lead this collection of Christmas songs old and new. Her voice is classy and Broadway-oriented, as are most of the arrangements here (stabs of "New York, New York" have been somewhat sacreligiously inserted into the medley of "Here Comes Santa Claus/Santa Claus is Coming to Town"). If you're yearning for the kind of album that the grown-ups used to play to augment the egg-nog and Martinis, then yearn no more.
CHRISTMAS STAYS THE SAME features a couple of originals by the Broadway team of Frank Wildhorn and Jack Murphy (who penned the immensely successful though hardly Yuletide-friendly JEKYLL AND HYDE musical in which Eder has appeared), including the title track and the unapologetically sentimental "Christmas Through a Child's Eyes." Their florid style suits Eder's expressive vocals down to the ground. In a more traditional vein "The Little Drummer Boy" exerts its usual strange fascination, lending itself to pretty much any arrangement, while "Do You Hear What I Hear" gets an attractive and tasteful world music/LION KING treatment. Christmas remains safe and unchanging in Linda Eder's talented and capable hands.
Recorded at Sound On Sound Studios and Edison Recording Studio, New York, New York. Includes liner notes by Linda Eder.
Personnel includes: Linda Eder (vocals); Bernd Schoenhart (guitar); Sandra Park, Sharon Yamada, Lisa Kim, Jenny Strenger, Anna Rabinova, Carol Webb, David Nadien (violin); Richard Locker, Ted Mook, Joshua Gordon, Qiang Tu (cello); Mike Davis (trumpet, trombone); ...

| | Michael Ball Musicals CD (1998)
Christmas songs
$12.65 There's one thing Michael Ball fans can't stop raving about: his voice. And after some questionable song selections on previous albums that didn't do "the voice" justice, Musicals covers the classics -- tunes from Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, Sunset Boulevard, West Side Story, My Fair Lady, and Cats all make an appearance. As if to further highlight his vocal talents, Ball tackles some songs normally sung by female characters, such as "I Dreamed a Dream" and "With One Look." Purists may object, but Ball's smooth and subtle vocals work just as well here. The mellow "Losing My Mind" is one of the better songs, while the cheesy sax in "Last Night of the World" makes it only tolerable. However, songs such as "Anthem" and "You Will Never Walk Alone" ably highlight Ball's strength: his soaring, mellifluous vocals. Some of the arrangements are questionable and over-orchestrated, but as fans of Michael Ball will tell you, that's not the point. This is one for fans of musicals (funnily enough) who enjoy one man's ...
| | Michael Ball Centre Stage CD (2001)
Christmas album
$12.59 Thanks to Andrew Lloyd Webber, Michael Ball has been a star in his native U.K. since 1989, when he created the role of Alex Dillingham in Lloyd Webber's musical Aspects of Love and got to sing "Love Changes Everything," which became a number one hit. Since then, while continuing to appear in West End shows, he's charted ten solo albums in Britain. This one, the tenth, makes a good introduction to listeners in the U.S. (where Hip-O issued four of his previous discs in 2000). The song list consists entirely of show music, with qualifications, since "The Winner Takes It All" was a hit for ABBA before it was included with a collection of the group's other songs in the musical Mamma Mia, and the Bee Gees' "Immortality" was written for and introduced by Celine Dion before being interpolated into the score of the stage version of Saturday Night Fever. Ball harks back to early triumphs with "Bring Him Home" from Les Miserables, the show in which he made his West End debut in 1985, as well as "The Music of the Night" and the title song from The Phantom of the Opera (the latter a duet with Lesley Garrett), which he appeared in in 1987. His other choices tend to reflect his immersion in sub-operatic pop-style theater music, though he also throws in a couple of Stephen Sondheim songs. He possesses a supple tenor that he frequently uses in melodramatic and stagy ways, an artificial approach that may be unconvincing to American listeners used to more down-to-earth interpretations. This isn't a collection that takes any chances, and it pales in comparison to Donny Osmond's 2001 album This Is the Moment, which employs several of the same songs, much less the catalog of Michael Crawford. ~ William Ruhlmann
Ball is right at home with these songs as his stardom came as a result of his stage career. He stretches out a bit with songs from 'Phantom Of The Opera','A Little Night Music','The ...

| | Trick Pony R.I.D.E. CD (2005)
Christmas album
$7.29 R.I.D.E., the title of Trick Pony's third album, stands for "Rebellious Individuals Delivering Entertainment." Of course, in 2000's Nashville, rebelling could often mean playing straight-up old-school country while not taking oneself too seriously, two pursuits at which Trick Pony excels. A slice of good-time barroom country rock, R.I.D.E. manages to sound staunchly traditional while never sticking too close to a formula. Primary lead vocalist Heidi Newfield comes off like a bawdy mix of Tanya Tucker, Loretta Lynn, and Mae West, delivering the pure honky-tonk of "Ain't Wastin' Good Whiskey On You" and the tears-in-your-beer emotion of "When I Fall" with equal panache. It's guitarist Keith Burns, however, who delivers the record's most accessible song with "Sad City," which features a guest vocal from Hootie & The Blowfish's Darius Rucker. A mix of sawdust, sweat, and jumbotron-ready party spirit, this R.I.D.E. is guaranteed to be a wild one.
Audio Mixers: Bob Campbell-Smith; Ed Seay; Brian Tankersley.
