| | Dramatics Ultimate Collection CD Dramatics Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Recorded between 1971 & 1980. Includes liner notes by Steven Ivory.
Digitally remastered by Erick Labson (Universal Mastering Studios West, North Hollywood, California).
Spanning their biggest singles from the '70s and '80s, the Dramatics' Ultimate Collection includes staples like "In the Rain," "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get," and "Be My Girl." "You're Fooling You," "Welcome Back Home," "I'm Going By the Stars in Your Eyes," and "Me and Mrs. Jones" are some of the other notable tracks from this retrospective, which covers the group's years with Stax, ABC, and Volt. Though it doesn't go into as much depth as some previous Dramatics collections, Ultimate Collection does a good job of presenting highlights from the majority of the group's career. ~ Heather Phares

| | Best Of Blue Magic CD (1974)
Ultimate Collection music CDs
$7.39 Blue Magic's sublime sophomore effort manages to retain the delicate beauty of their debut while summoning a more confident, robust approach to group harmony. The Magic of the Blue is above all a celebration of the human voice in all its myriad forms of expression. Whether transcending contrived ballads like "Three-Ring Circus" (a bland rewrite of the earlier hit "Sideshow") or soaring on the strength of up-tempo dance tunes like the excellent title cut, Blue Magic's harmonies are impeccable, showcased by arranger
In a perfect world, all of Blue Magic's '70s LPs would have been reissued on CD in the late '80s or '90s. But that didn't happen; when the 21st century arrived, most of the Philadelphia vocal group's '70s albums were out of print. However, various best-of packages were available on CD. The most comprehensive is The Best of Blue Magic: Soulful Spell, a superb 20-song collection that Rhino assembled in 1996. Less generous is Magic of the Blue: Greatest Hits; originally released on vinyl by Omni in 1986 and subsequently ...
| | Very Best Of The Spinners CD (1993)
Ultimate Collection songs
$7.99 The Spinners were rivaled only by the O'Jays as the greatest Philly soul group, and for that matter the greatest vocal group of the '70s. For listeners who don't want to dig as deeply as the excellent double-CD anthology One of a Kind Love Affair, Rhino's The Very Best of the Spinners is a stellar single-disc career summary that offers a concentrated dose of the group's sweet soul magic. It also serves as a primer on the best work of Thom Bell, Philly soul's "other" great producer besides the legendary Gamble & Huff team. Incredibly, every one of the 16 tracks here -- culled from 1970-1980 -- reached the R&B Top Ten, and half went all the way to number one on either the pop or R&B lists. As this collection demonstrates, the Spinners' massive popularity was well-deserved. Built around the magnetic leads of Philippe Wynne, their records were tastefully, elegantly romantic, full of adult heartache and longings as complex as the group's shifting ...
| | Best Of The Moments: Love On A Two-Way Street CD (1996)
Ultimate Collection album
$8.69 Additional personnel includes: Sammy Lowe (conductor); Sylvia Robinson (spoken vocals); Tommy Keith (guitar).
Recorded between the late 1960s and 1982. Includes liner notes by A. Scott Galloway.
The Moments charted regularly on the R&B charts and copped the number three position on the pop charts with "Love on a Two-Way Street." Best of the Moments: Love on a Two-Way Street [Rhino 1996] chronicles a group that underwent some changes before Billy Brown, Al Goodman, and Harry Ray meshed and made the Moments a popular R&B entity. Die-hard fans will notice two omissions: "Girl I'm Going to Miss You," a floater sung by Brown in an aching falsetto, and "Somebody Loves You Baby," the B-side of "Sunday." The inclusion of "I'm Willing" by Harry Ray (one of his solo releases), and an extended version of "Sexy Mama" soften the oversights. Incidentally, ...
