| | Etta James Her Best CD Etta James Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
While several best-ofs from Etta James' Chess period have been available over the years -- with the two-disc, 44-track Essential Etta James at the top of the list in giving the big picture -- this 20-track collection sweats that bigger picture down to bare essentials. For those wishing to finally sample Etta's classic period at Chess without opening the wallet for box set expense, this single-disc retrospective will fill the bill quite nicely. Featuring 20 of the tracks that appear on the double-disc Essential anthology without anything literally essential left off, this scintillating little disc now officially becomes the one-stop, first-time purchase in connecting with the emotional greatness inherent in Etta's siren song. There's plenty more after this to discover, but this is absolutely where you start. ~ Cub Koda

This stunning album is Shirley Horn's loving tribute to her friend and colleague, the legendary late Miles Davis. Davis was so taken by Horn's first album EMBERS AND ASHES that he forced The Village Vanguard to let her virtually-unknown trio open for him during his ...

Her Best music CDs
$11.35 Musically, David Olney's album One Tough Town travels backward in time. By the second track, "Sweet Poison," he has reached the rockabilly of the 1950s; by the end, on "Rainbow's End," he sounds like he's trying to re-create the hit parade of the 1920s. Especially on recent albums, Olney has investigated more basic musical styles, sometimes by employing unusual ...
