(4 Customer Reviews)
THE CHESS BOX is a comprehensive box set with a 12-page booklet that includes extensive liner notes (including insights from Willie Dixon himself), and photos from 1941 to 1988.
In 1970, Willie Dixon released an album entitled I AM THE BLUES. It was a brash claim, but if anyone in blues history could stand up to this bit of bravura, Dixon was the man. Over the course of his career, Willie Dixon penned a suitcase full of tunes that defined Chicago blues-easily the most influential strand of the blues in the post-war era. "Hoochie Coochie Man," "Spoonful," "I'm Ready," "Wang Dang Doodle," "Little Red Rooster," "I Ain't Superstitious," and "I Just Want to Make Love to You" are but a few of the dozens of instantly recognizable Dixon classics. With the CHESS BOX, fans now have a nifty introduction to one of the blues' indisputable giants.
Dixon was a great bassist and songwriter but only an average singer. Fortunately, Chess has chosen to represent Dixon's career through others' classic recordings of his songs. With recordings by Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, Bo Diddley, and others, the Willie Dixon CHESS BOX is not only a great tribute to Dixon but also a great overview of Chicago blues history. Willie Dixon Chess Box Songs Chess Box Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) you can't live without it I have listened to these songs over and over and I'll sure will be listening to them over and over again. They contain everything and more. Their changing instrumentation offers a huge variety of sounds. It really surprises you. It's not that kind of "oh I've heard this one melody in a million similiar-songs" music. I bet you know what I mean. The lyrics are funny, sad, dramatic, passionate... and sung by many different singers. This is why these two little rotating CDs turn out to be a good starting point for further expeditions into the world of blues...or let's just say music, because it is inspiring for everyone, who is in love with music and who wants to spread this love. Please excuse every possible mistake. I am German. My English is not as good as yours. But as long as you good my message and follow this instruction, I'm satisfied: Go and get. Now. Songwriter, Composer Extraordinaire I've always liked Willie Dixon but I didn't realize how influential he was. I always thought that Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf and other artists signature songs were written by them... Wrong! Willie Dixon Wrote them. Excellent CD!! The Roots Of Rock I am a huge Led Zeppelin fan but it is just amazing to me how they stole or plagerized this guys tunes. The bad part about it is he had to sue Zeppelin to get his royalty money the good part was he was successful in getting it.Willie Dixon is truly one of the creators of what we now know as Rock and Roll. $15.75 Composer Ennio Morricone introduced vocalist Edd Dell'Orso to the world, but the most of the world didn't realize it, as her work on the soundtracks for A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS, THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY, and ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST was wordless. There are lyrics on this particular album, but as was the case when she recorded with Morricone, her voice is more than a voices -- it's an instrument.
Edda Dell'Orso might be most famous for supplying her high, often tremulously quasi-operatic vocals to numerous Ennio Morricone soundtracks, though her voice has been heard on many scores by other composers (mostly ...
