| | George Jones 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection CD George Jones Discography of CDs
Digitally remastered by Elliott Federman (SAJE Sound, New York, New York).
This is part of MCA's 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection series.
THE BEST OF GEORGE JONES showcases Jones' knack for pulling deep emotion from a lyric, moving heart and mind simultaneously. Just about every tune on this album is a gem. Singing poignant laments about life's ups and downs, and the pangs of love's loss, Jones offers listeners a glimpse into their own lives.
In fact, the ability to uncover universal truths about life's seemingly endless woes seems to be his greatest legacy. Songs such as "Just One More" and "Achin', Breakin' Heart" underscore this best. On the former, Jones croons, "Put the bottle on the table, and stay there 'til I'm not able to see your face in every place that I go...I'll keep drinking. It won't matter." What more need be said? This is quintessential George Jones.
Recorded between 1955 & 1962. Includes liner notes by Rich Kienzle.
Personnel: George Jones (vocals, guitar).
Compilation producers: Andy McKaie, Mike Ragogna.

20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection album
$12.65 "If You Ever Have Forever In Mind" won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance and was nominated for Best Country Song. "My Kind Of Woman/My Kind Of Man" was nominated for a 1999 Grammy for Best Country Collaboration With Vocals. "Don't Come Cryin' To Me" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
Vince Gill's THE KEY is essentially a crash course on the history of country music. Inspired by the death of his father to return to the classic country of his youth, Gill has created a primer of traditional country styles. Each song highlights a different style, from Western swing and the Bakersfield sound to waltzes and great male/female duets. But Gill's talents as a guitarist and vocalist keep THE KEY hanging together as a unified whole.
Guest vocalists Faith Hill, Lee Ann Womack, Sara Evans and Alison Krauss are used to great effect--particularly Womack, on the jukebox weeper "Kindly Keep It Country." A standout is "My Kind of Woman/My Kind of Man," Vince's first full-fledged duet with Patty ...

$19.39 Not since Prince released the three-hour, three-CD set EMANCIPATION in 1996 or the Magnetic Fields took a similar number of discs for the sprawling 69 LOVE SONGS in 1999 has an artist attempted something as expansive as Vince Gill's THESE DAYS. A four-disc box set of all new material, nearly all of it Gill originals, THESE DAYS is possibly the widest-ranging country album of the modern era. The four discs are thematically and stylistically arranged. Disc one, WORKIN' ON A BIG CHILL, is a 1960s-flavored rock-and-roll album that recalls Bob Dylan's late '60s work with the Band and features Bonnie ...

$25.25 Yes, this is one time when the title truly does explain it all. This Bear Family set bubbles over with hard-luck tales and tragedy, much of it verging on kitsch -- but it doesn't quite get over the top, at least in terms of maudlin productions. Usually, the tragedy is within the lyrics, as the songs often play as simple unadorned country productions -- probably because there is an abundance of songs by Hank Snow here. Snow accounts for ...
