The Flower Kings' fast rise to the top of the progressive rock community was equal to their recording pace. The two hours of music on Stardust We Are completed a four-album run in a little less than four years. Roine Stolt's creativity seemed without limits, but listening to this two-CD set, one finds a little more filler than usual, mostly in the form of poppier tunes (like "Different People," "Kingdom of Lies," and "Compassion") and short instrumental pieces meant as bridges between more significant songs. Strangely, it didn't affect the album's cohesion or interest (it wouldn't be the case for Flower Power) and, although it could have been stripped down to an even stronger 75-minute CD, Stardust We Are made a strong impression and opened the U.S. doors for the Swedish band. The opener "In the Eyes of the World" has the strength and positive drive of the best Stolt songs and became an instant live classic, as did "Church of Your Heart," which also contained all the Flower Kings trademark ingredients: a memorable melody; intelligent shifts in time signature, speed, and key; lush arrangements; spirited musicianship; heartfelt vocals (alternating between Stolt and Hans Fröberg, depending on register and the emotional effect required); and a positive attitude toward life. "Circus Brimstone" is a strange and complex instrumental piece with backward voices inherited from Frank Zappa -- one of Roine Stolt's least-suspected influences. Disc two contains less strong moments: "The End of Innocence" is a good track, but afterwards it seems "Different People," "Kingdom of Lies," and "If 28" are just there to kill time before the epic "Stardust We Are," a 25-minute tour de force, full of well-developed music ideas seamlessly stitched together. More cohesive as a whole than the previous album Retropolis, Stardust We Are was on the other hand weaker musically speaking, but it remains one of the very good Flower Kings albums, if only for the opening and closing tracks. ~ François Couture

Essential Flower Kings album. Essential Prog album This CD is amazing. There are some beautiful instrumentals such as Don of the Universe and The Man Who Walked With Kings. There are masterpieces such as Church Of Your Heart and Stardust We Are. There are really chill songs like Just This Once and Ghost Of The Red Cloud. And there are fun rockin' tunes like In The Eyes Of The World and The Merrygoround. I love this album. It is a must have for any prog fan. It's got it all. My first FloKi cd The best Flower Kings cd, and besides that one of the best Prog albums ever made. I was in a Prog festival in Uden when I saw this cd for the first time, but I did not purchase it. I did that about a mounth or 2 later in 1997. It was my first FloKi album, and besides that my first introduction into Swedish music and that was really a great trip that is still going on. Stardust is a different CD than others, or atleast it is to me. Here what they do is so orginal and yes, I saw them twice that year so I know how energic they are and besides that how good they are. I had the priveldge to mail with Tomas for a while (too bad he got too busy and had lesser time to reply) and to interview the band one time for my prog program.
There are many highlights on this cd, but I think Stardust We Are is the one that will always be one of my favorite. Although I can apreciate all of their cd's, Ithink they never really reached this peak again. The music got more pollished, and more professional. In this album, there still is alot of improvisation and little freaky things. Later on it all got more normal. Although the vocals of Roine clearly grew in the years. Pieces as Deaf Dumb Blind on Flower Power or Last Minute on earth on Rainmaker have great great vocals. But dont let Stardust pass, give it a chance, or atleast as I did more than once, and Im sure that it will not soon leave your CD player again. Other Swedish bands : try the solo stuff of Roine and Tomas, but also Riones projects Transtalantic or Kaipa. Or if you are in for a real treat, try Landberk, Anekdoten, Anglagard or Galleon. | | Flower Kings Rainmaker CD (2001)
Stardust We Are
$11.39 The Flower Kings must be the most stable, consistent progressive rock outfit of the 1990s. A year after the release of Space Revolver, they released The Rainmaker, featuring the usual lineup (although the liner notes announce it is Jaime Salazar's last recording with the group) and Don Azzaro at the mixing desk. In general, this album remains very close to the Flower Kings sound and could be traded with any of their previous efforts. There is one difference: it sounds just a bit closer to metal. Is the fact that it rocks harder a sign ...

Stardust We Are
$12.65 Principally recorded at Dark Horse, Nashville, Tennessee and Racket Club Studios, Buckinghamshire, England.
Transatlantic drummer and founder Mike Portnoy has been bucking and setting trends since the early '90s by immersing himself in progressive rock at a time when grunge and teen bands ruled. His primary band, Dream Theater, raised the bar for musicianship and complexity while helping to establish the progressive metal genre. Portnoy showed ...

| | Michael Mcdonald Blue Obsession CD (1997)
Stardust We Are
$11.29 Working with producer Tommy Sims -- the man who produced Eric Clapton's hit "Change the World" -- evidently inspired Michael McDonald, since Blue Obsession is his best record in nearly ten years. Stylistically, it's similar to every record he's made since going solo in the early '80s -- namely, it's a combination of adult contemporary ballads and lightly grooving, adult contemporary pop-soul -- but the difference is that the quality of the material is uniformly strong. In addition to two covers ("Ain't That Peculiar," "Down By the River"), there's a selection of new songs largely co-written by McDonald and Sims. While there are no crossover pop hits on the level of "I Keep Forgettin'" or "Sweet Freedom," it's a strong collection of songs with only a few slow moments. It

| | Dean Friedman Songs For Grownups CDs (1999)
Stardust We Are
$21.49 Dean Friedman first marked his entry into pop consciousness with the Top 20 chart success of his infectious hit single, Ariel, a quirkily irresistible and uncategorizable pop song about a free spirited, music loving, vegetarian Jewish girl in a peasant blouse who lived, as the lyric goes, "...way on the other side of the Hudson". Friedman scored again with the release of his follow up album, “Well, Well,” Said the Rocking Chair’, and the now classic hit single, Lucky Stars. This magical duet, performed with singer, Denise Marsa, zoomed to the top of the UK singles charts, going instantly gold. Lucky Stars paved the way for a slew of Friedman hits in the UK, including familiar radio staples such as Lydia, Rocking Chair and Woman of Mine. Friedman’s consummate songwriting and performing, have earned him a loyal international following, devoted to the sophisticated, funny and profound work of a master songsmith. “Stunning Musicianship” - Hot Press, "Songsmith Extraordinaire! A Great Performer!" - Music Week , "An Amazing Talent" - The Sun, "An American Classic" - Tribune, are just of few of the superlatives used to describe Friedman's powerfully ...

Stardust We Are
$11.89 "Keep on f*ckin'!" Nashville Pussy explained on 2002's Say Something Nasty. "That's God's first commandment!" Thus having rewritten scripture, there's little for the band to do besides raise hell. Of course, if you trust in 2005's Get Some!, they did that already, too. "Raisin' Hell Again" is just two more minutes of riff-ripping hoariness in a hairy and calamitous string of them, just one of 13 more reasons to love and/or hate this proudly sleazy Atlanta combo. "Grab some and hold on" -- opener "Pussy Time" is the kind of mirthful double-entendre theme to make you hope Nashville Pussy replace Jeff Healy as the Double Deuce's house ...
