Newsboys: Furler (vocals, guitar, drums, programming); Davis (vocals, guitar); Joel (vocals, bass); Frankenstein (keyboards, programming); Phillips (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Steve Hindalong (percussion); Tedd Tjornhom (programming); Tim Rauter (decks); The Nashville String Machine. Recorded at The White House, Nashville, Tennessee. Recording information: 11/1999. Photographer: Michael Ruiz. Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) seems to be chameleonic by nature, always adopting the protective coloration of some pop-music style in order to gain or maintain an audience. In their 12 years of existence, Newsboys have been more changeable than most CCM artists, both geographically (having moved from Australia to Nashville) and stylistically. In 1997, lead singer John James departed, and the group came to be guided by Peter Furler, who assumed the chief vocal chores. The result was 1998's Step Up to the Microphone, whose light-pop style found favor with the faithful. Its follow-up, Love Liberty Disco, will sound to the uninitiated like a Britpop clone of Oasis and its ilk. Furler emotes in an airy tenor which shades into falsetto over pop/rock arrangements that, like all the Britpop bands, mix the heavy influence of the Beatles with more recent styles. Love Liberty Disco successfully follows CCM's basic formula, smartly aping an existing pop style in a Christian context. ~ William Ruhlmann The Newsboys were one of the most popular Christian rock bands of the '90s, and their fifth album, LOVE LIBERTY DISCO, finds the rapidly maturing band penning well-crafted songs about the inner self, faith, and sacrifice. The album opens with a pop song replete with psychedelic-sounding guitars called "Beautiful Sound" and continues through to the title track, a funk-flavored '70s blaxploitation-sounding number, complete with funky hand clapping. Some of the other wonderfully written gems on LOVE LIBERTY DISCO are "Forever Man," "Break," and "Fall on You." Don't let the Christian rock label fool you--these cats are amazing musicians, and LOVE LIBERTY DISCO is everything a pop album should be. Newsboys Love Liberty Disco Songs | 1. | Beautiful Sound |

Awesome cd! This cd is truly one of a kind. While there is some disco on it, there is also other, more subdued music that's just as cool. It's my personal favorite cd ever. Newsboys ROCK! Submitted by a reviewer (Cleveland, Oh) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Newsboys in their finest hour I own all the Newsboys Cds, and I must admit this one has really outshone all their previous work. The songs are rich both lyrically, and musically. The vocals are melodious and have a good range. The strings are perfectly placed. The bass, drums, keyboard, and guitar work sound so united you can feel the heart of the songs coming through your speakers. A definite 5/5! $13.89 Born Ryan Hamilton in Brunswick, Georgia, Trigga Da Don is the middle of five children. Having grown up in a single parent household, Ryan knows what it means to struggle and to live in less than desirable conditions. Ryan was educated in the Brunswick Public School System and was thriving until he reached the fourth grade. At that time he witnessed the horrific death of his friend. Needless to say, this event left him traumatized and it affected his ability to concentrate and pay attention in school. It was through his love for music that he taught himself to read better and recognize words. He would incorporate his vocabulary words into the lyrics of his songs. In spite of being discouraged by friends and even some of his teachers, Ryan graduated from Brunswick High School in the spring of 2003. He then went on to attend Coastal Georgia Community College in the fall of that same ...
