John Reuben rocks the mic. Are We There Yet is a release filled with urban hip-hop, rap stylings, and lyrics without pretense. "Do Not" is a groove that spouts living for God and exposing sin without sounding preachy. Reuben's rhymes here are hard hitting and fresh. The tune boasts a snazzy chorus that builds nicely while being sung by young children. "Gather In" should be a live crowd pleaser. With a tripped-out dance beat and well-placed scratches, the cut is a gem. "X-Ray" is a 180 degree turn. Snare high-hat, snare, high-hat intro an alternative-based venture. The chorus is a heavy one. Reuben ventures into P.O.D., Project 86 territory meshing lyrical screams, a heavy distorted guitar, and an eerie bass riff. "God Is Love" features Toby Mac, (aka Toby Mckeehan) of dc Talk. Well-placed acoustic guitars accentuate this infectious melody. Vocally Mckeehan drops a great rap and aids vocally in boosting a potent chorus. Are We There Yet? is a high-flying debut for John Reuben. The release is a perfect fusion of hip-hop and rap with a lyrical theme of personal struggle that is relatable to everyone. ~ Steven Losey

Are We There Yet? Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) best ever This is my favorite artist. I love his lyrics and he is truly gifted and talented. I wish he was more popular and played on vh1 and stuff so he would be more well known..well at least I can enjoy him:) Submitted by a reviewer (Houghton NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Pretty good Overall, this is a good album. John really shows off his talent in good Christian based rhymes and creativity with the lyrics. The hooks are catchy and will sure be stuck in your head later on. My personal favorite songs are the rap/rock laced "Identify" and "Hello Ego". There are some songs, however, like "No Regrets" that I just skip over. But all in all, a good effort from John Reuben. He could be classified as the Christian Eminem but..I won't say that = D Submitted by TobyMacsLPCxT (Shoreham, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Totally Awesome I hate rap and hip-hop. And most Christian musicians just repeat religious phrases. But this cd is the greatest! John Reuben is da bomb! =) The songs are real, catchy, and musically sound. I love the way he speaks the truth with so much conviction. He makes you think. And the music! The harmony is so pleasing to the ear, not to mention the foundation of interwoven guitar and drums. One of my favorite tracks is No Regrets--no, it's gotta be Draw Near. Or maybe, Do Not. Ah, they're all so good. Trust me, this cd is worth the money! When is the next one coming out??
ps: Toby Mac is weak in God is Love. Reuben definitely outshines him on this cd. Submitted by a reviewer (Rochester, MN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
WOW, is all i can say I first listened to this music as a fluke, i am not your usual hip-hop listener, in fact i didn't even own a rap or hip-hop cd until i heard john reuben. His music mixes between old school hip-hop and modern rock, this album crosses the gap between rock and rap, and secular and christian. Many non-christians that i have let hear this cd have fallen in love with the music. The messages Reuben carries through his lyrics are not the usual christian lyrics either, he doesn't profess in every song that you must be christian, but he still gets the point across. Are We There Yet?
$13.79 Catherine's first full album shows the band starting to step away a little more from the inevitable Pumpkins comparisons, though there's still plenty of droning stun guitar to make the connections clear enough. "Saint" might as well be an early B-side from Corgan and his crew, at least except for the vocals. In the end, though, Jendon's less overbearing vocal work, woven into the mix rather than cutting through it, helps the group stand apart more than might be thought. Lyrically, the songs aren't much to completely write home about: opening cut "Songs About Girls" tends to say it all, and images of post-shoegaze bliss and love are the rule rather than the exceptions. ...
